Scans have confirmed Sydney Roosters second rower Anthony Cherrington will miss season 2010 after he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the club’s final trial match.
The 21-year-old has a specialist appointment booked for Wednesday where he will learn the full extent of the injury, which is expected to keep him sidelined for six months.
The injury occurred inside the last five minutes of his side’s 40-14 win against the Parramatta Eels at Gosford’s Bluetongue Stadium on Saturday night.
The ball playing back-rower, who is contracted to the club until the end of 2012, was on track for selection in Brian Smith’s forward pack for round one after completing an intense preseason regime.
The local junior has had more than his fair share of injuries in the past year, including a medial cruciate ligament and foot injury that kept him out of action until late in the 2009 season.
Cherrington graduated from the club’s Toyota Cup squad in the 2008 season where he made 14 NRL appearances, adding just five to that total since.
