  • Cherrington out for the season

Well today the Roosters got hit with some heart-breaking news:

Scans have confirmed Sydney Roosters second rower Anthony Cherrington will miss season 2010 after he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the club’s final trial match.

The 21-year-old has a specialist appointment booked for Wednesday where he will learn the full extent of the injury, which is expected to keep him sidelined for six months.

The injury occurred inside the last five minutes of his side’s 40-14 win against the Parramatta Eels at Gosford’s Bluetongue Stadium on Saturday night.

The ball playing back-rower, who is contracted to the club until the end of 2012, was on track for selection in Brian Smith’s forward pack for round one after completing an intense preseason regime.

The local junior has had more than his fair share of injuries in the past year, including a medial cruciate ligament and foot injury that kept him out of action until late in the 2009 season.

Cherrington graduated from the club’s Toyota Cup squad in the 2008 season where he made 14 NRL appearances, adding just five to that total since.

I think, although a good talent, he is very much replaceable.

that's agreed but for a young talent like that, they're not really good signs for him as a future player

                No Dont mean that Coq

Just pissed we lost him in a trial , his effort even for one game may have helped us get 2 points if there was no trials. this way we have lost him for nothing

So what's your solution inbred? Don't play trials? Let them run around with the under7s?

This is a real shame because this is now 2 disruptive years in a row in regards to injuries. I just hope he can make a really speedy recovery and get back onto the field by the end of the year for Newtown. Anthony has so much potential to be a great ball playing back-rower which would add another dimension in our attack. He is still young 21 Years old, i hope this Roosters junior can bounce back.

Welcome Henry. Yes, Cherrington has had a bad run of injures and this latest one is really going to test his character. Cordner is in a similar situation. It would be good for the two of them to help each other out during their recuperation. Good luck to both Boyd and Anthony for a speedy and full recovery.

I was hoping that by the end of this season, we would see Cherrington in 11, and Cordner in 12, established as our starting backrow for the future years.

That is a shame Mack. I don't know about Cordner, but I did think/hope that this year was the year that Cherrington came out and made a big impression on first grade.

Hopefully it's not too late for him. He'll need to have a strong head for twelve months with rehabilitation.
