Hi Ghost, i suggest you go back and read the thread starter , It says BEST STARTING PACK EVER FIELDED. And even when you ignore the thread this is the best ??, no Bunny Reilly?? I still think the 75 pack with Mackay,Walters, Hedger, Beetson, Coote, and Reilly was the best ever and has the stats to prove it.

Not to mention moving Coote from the lock position for Fitzy. As good as Fitzy was, he wasn't in the same postcode as Coote.

I love Fitzy ,and if we start naming an ALL TIME pack he would be in mine, with Beetson, Coote, and Reilly, Morley, hooker is a toss up these days it would be Horrie Hastings although he didnt play there, but the best I saw in RW and B was Johnny Lang, even though he was past his best when he came to us, he definitly was a great dummy half. i can only go back to the mid 60s so cant include anyone i never actually saw play.

I'd have Fitzy in my team too, but at 2nd row, not lock. There's only ever been one lock better than Coote and although I never saw Raper play, some pundits say there wasn't a great deal between the two.

I saw Johnny Raper, and Ron Coote. Raper was a freak I think his peak years were 1960 to 68, Coote came on the scene in 67 i think, raper played more up the middle , and like a big 5/8 in attack, a runner and great ball distributor and a sweeping role in defence. coote was more a wide running forward, and a brilliant cover defender, some of the takles he pulled off on flying wingers are the stuff of legend

At least there is one certainty, everyones pack should start with Big Artie. I saw him play a full game without ever being put on the ground, it was against Canterbury at Belmore Oval, they had this big pommie forward, Lockwood i think , Beetson smashed him so hard he had to go off....he ran rings around them, offloads at will, and crushing defence......they normally only ran at him once. I would have loved to see him one side and Morley the other. **** thats scary to even think about.

Whats even more scary is that you might not get spat at for wearing a away team strip.

Horrie was a champion halback. Yes he could cover hooker, but Id go with a specialist like Lang or Masterman.

Bonetti was very effective too. Gutsy little bastard that spilled bile for the jersey.

Yeah, I agree, Bonetti was very under rated and I loved his work. Would have loved to see Horrie palying hooker in the game as it is today, he might have got the spot in the Green and Gold he deserved, the best player never to wear a Green and Gold jersey, was an absolute crime when he missed the tour to Endland.
