.Rabbitohs junior Beau Champion has declared South Sydney have more passion than the Roosters as the arch rivals prepare to do battle for the 200th time this afternoon.
Despite claims from former coach Jason Taylor that South Sydney had assumed the title of ''glamour club'' from their Bondi Junction nemesis, Champion was quick to point out the majority of the Rabbitohs squad were local juniors, while the Roosters had two.
''Asides from a few guys they've brought in, most of us here are local juniors and that's something we can be really proud of,'' Champion said.
''So if you can breed them, I think you can feel a lot better about it as a club that you've brought your own through rather than buying and poaching players from other areas. Apart from a few new guys, most of our squad is from here and they are representing South Sydney.''
He said Souths supporters and players still had cause to harbour hostilities towards their local rivals.
''We have a really proud tradition and history of bringing young juniors through at our club and unfortunately during those years when we were doing it tough, clubs like the Roosters would poach Souths players - like Craig Wing,'' Champion said.
''And I think that's why Souths fans deserve to be so passionate about the game. Those little things that maybe they have done to us in the past when we were under a bit of pressure, when they took advantage of us when we were a bit vulnerable, we're back in a position now where we are saying: 'You're not going to steal any of our young kids anymore.'
''We've battled hard off the field to get to where the club is now and now we've got to battle hard on it to reap the rewards. A couple of years ago the club was at death's door and to see how it is now, with these facilities and to play for the club you grew up dreaming to play for, there's a lot of passion there.
''Being in here in those tough times makes it all the more special when you do go out there and put a good performance together against a team like the Roosters. But to be truly successful we need to find that hunger now week-in, week-out, not just fire up for the Roosters.''
Meanwhile, hooker Issac Luke has sounded an ominous warning to the Roosters: beware of Eddy Pettybourne.
''The way he's been running and breaking the line, he scares me,'' Luke said. ''I think when the club signed Dave Taylor and Sam Burgess, and with Mick Crocker in the side, Eddie thought that he would lose his spot in the team. And man, he has just fired up and been up there. He's mean now.
''I always go to him because he's someone I know will go forward and get up and play the ball for me. His goal is to get through the line and get that last play-the-ball. He's got that energy to hit one and get up and take the next one. He always gets his nose through the line and his next thing for him is a little jink at the line and a little offload - and he'll get it. Look out.''
