BM, I rate Friend as well. Especially his passing and creative play.

But I do feel Jones offers more options than having a dedicated #9 as a reserve.

      Thoughts?

I really think that Friend will be #1 hooker at our club. Jones, i don't know about, all-round footballer, but i am not sure as to what his natural position is.

          BM,
From reading your posts over the past 6 months, I've learned to trust your judgment.

Let's see how this pans out.

I do wish when Jake comes back it's because he is ready rather than the Roosters being ready

Wrong move to bring Jake back so soon

In my best Gus Gould voice, NO NO NO NO NO.

What could he possibly have deeply learnt in such a short time away from the Roosters?

There are double standards at play here or can I expect Stanley Waqa and Sandor Earl to be back within a month as well?

              Dear oh dear oh dear.

I'm a bit either way, on one side, i wouldn't want to rush him if he is not ready mentally.
One the other, i think that playing football or at least training with the squad will benefit him greatly, especially with the good vibe around the club at the moment, and Smith's wise words.

I don't want the reason for rushing him in, to be that we need him, i want it to be because playing football is what will make him happy, if he is up to that level of responsibility.

As to comparing him to Earl and Waqa, correct me if i am wrong but wasn't Earl's contract just not renewed ?
As for Waqa, well, a domestic assault with a knife, especially at the time that it happened was always going to get him sacked.

Friend has been guilty of drink driving which is very serious.

However the latest incidents in which he was 'accused' of assault in a nightclub, only for witnesses to say he wasn't even there, and a drunken night out which got blown out of proportion were fluff pieces as our club was well and truly under the pump in the media.

To sum it all up, i hope they don't rush him in for his attributes on the field, i hope they let him play football if he is ready and willing.

I think playing in the 20s squad would be a great intro.

I think Past Glory would be the best man on here to indicate whether Jake feels like he is ready to make a return.

That some people just shouldn't drink?

Myles, Pearce and Carney are off it.......can't Nathan follow their lead? Every single one of his incidents have been alcohol related, pretty obvious what the issue is.

I want Anasta to play out his career here. He deserves some success after busting his ass over so many years and bleeding for the club. He has copped it harder than any other Rooster, and in my opinion, deserves a gf more than anybody on the team except Brian Smith.
                    100% agree.
You would think jones and Friend would fight out the utility role, and Koups would go back to the second row where he belongs.

Considering that all charges against Waqa have been dropped, you have to ask yourself why the Club couldn't have waited until the result of the court case before punting him.

You reckon there was no double standards involved here? Think Anthony Cherrington for a moment, who has an assault conviction against his name for threatening his girlfriend with a knife and was rewarded with a contract extension.

elo, do you really think that Jake has had enough time away from the Roosters and the game to deeply feel the negative effects of his bad behaviour when on the drink? If you do, that's fine, it just so happens I don't. The interview with Weidler a few weeks back left me thinking that Jake doesn't think he's got a problem with alcohol and that concerned me slightly because it makes me wonder what he thinks got him into the situation he finds himself.

So much to reply to in your well reasoned post so I'll keep it short:
                          • There's absolutely no rush to bring Jake back - JAubs and Jones can do the job.
                          • If they do bring Jake back, I agree, the 20s squad is a good place to start but what signal does that send to the incumbent 9 in the NYC side?
                          • What kind of a signal does it send to the other players after seeing Jake misbehave on the drink, have his contract torn up, get released from the club and then be welcomed back after a few months?
                          • PG/jman would certainly have a better idea than me but I'm just voicing a distant opinion

One player has potential. The other one doesn't.

For a start, the charges against him got dropped due to his wife's testimony. As it happens in plenty of domestic abuse cases. He was playing around with a knife showing her a trick ? Please.

Oh and for the record, i thought Cherrington should of been sacked on the spot.

Bad signal, but it is a part of life. Players with more potential will always receive preferential treatment. The only choice the incumbent has is to prove to the coaches that he is a better option than Jake.

                                Such is life.
