To me, Koups was solid without doing anything special. He is more of a backrower, no attack, but can defend. Seems to be a Smithy favourate.
Conn has been a pleasant surprise, plays tough. Looks to have bulked up from when he was at the Titans. Could be our "bargin buy" of the year along with 'Eddie'.
I really like Conn, both his efforts this year have been first class, look at the shoulders on the guy, great build for a backrower, reminds me, and im not saying hes in the same class yet, so dont jump down my throat....of a potential Bunny Reilly, I can live in hope, but the kids got heart, and an intimidation factor that i really like.
That's a monster forward pack. With Pearce, Carney, Anasta and JAubs, we cover all the half positions, and with Mini and Perret we have more than adequate support for fullback if a half gets injured and Carney moves to 6 or 7. MAubs can cover centre if need be.
I hope a spot can be retained in the side for him when Symonds and JWH are fit, at the moment I'd prefer him over Ryles who is struggling to maintain the pace of NRL footy...
I'm sure JJ's stats on grubbers are better than Koups. Last tackle and bases loaded on both sides and he does that. Big mistake and I doubt he will ever try it again.
BTW when did the game change? When Jaubs came in for Koups. Not saying that Jaubs won us the game or Koups would have lost us the game but imo Jaubs should play 80 minutes. He gives us more as an attacking option and is just as solid as Koups in defense. An ok backup hooker but given JWH and Symonds to come back and potentially Friend, I see Koups as missing out.
in my opinion the game changed when the tigers didn't put that penalty out on the full and perrett knocked it back into play, that was deadset brilliant from sammy
I support two NRL teams, the Roosters and whoevers playing Souths

Ryles will improve, give him a bit of time and I think he will come good, I havent seen any lack of effort from him, in fact maybe hes trying a bit too hard, it will take him a few games to get back on the pace here but i think he wil be good for us. Yesterday was too bloody hot for the big guys, I was looking at the stats while listening to the game, and the first half was played at a frenetic pace, around 700 metres each gained by both sides, I thought at the time they couldnt keep up that pace and the fulltime stat showed about 1200 for the tigers and 1100 for us, so everyone ran out of puff in the heat.
Yeah I'm also unconvinced about his requirement to be in the side. We'll have far better options when JWH and Symonds return and as Jaubs gets more game.
good on him! I'm also very pleasantly surprised with his value. He doesn't so much use his size[or lack of, in comparison to some others] to his advantage, but imo, he plays smart with the offloads and hitting gaps aggressively.
