  • POS starting to earn his keep

There have been people who have been highly critical of the recruitment methods of Peter O'Sullivan but if the first couple of weeks of this season are any indication, then I think we are starting to see the benefits.

Aiden Guerra and Brad Takairangi have both looked quite good in their limited time, particularly Guerra. Its great to have a young unknown forward burst on to the scene at our club instead of us going out and purchasing players who have already made a name for themselves. Even much maligned players such as Daniel Conn and Nick Kouparitsas have done their part in helping us to consecutive victories for the first time since 2008.

It looks like he's trying to replicate the Melbourne Storm model where he picks 3 or 4 marquee players then picks the eyes out of the juniors and lower grade competitions to make up the top 25.

Lets hope that we see the emergence of a few more up and comers as the season progresses.

Yeah he came with huge wraps on him but didn't deliver the first couple of years, but some of the players kicking around this season look to be good buys.

As you say, Conn and Kouparitsis have been solid and the same with a player like Phil Graham - not a world beater, but a quality first grader.

This current squad definitely has O'Sullivan's stamp on it and they're functioning well so far.

Thats because he came to a club who had too many guys on massive money eg. O'Meley, Mason Sa and co. He's now got rid of a heap of deadwood and is able to mould the club the way he wants to. You think about it, Cordner Leilua just to name a couple have massive wraps from all the right people, he's starting to rebuild us now in the image of the Storm. It won't happen overnight, give it another 2-3 years but with Pearce and Carney we are ideally placed to be a strong club for many years to come. In the next year or two Mini will leave freeing up more dollars, Anasta is in a similar boat. It will be interesting to see whether we retain him or let him go with a view to freeing up more dollars. He's building a 1, 6, 7 & 9 combo to have us a benchmark club for the next 6-7 years. Add a front rower or two, a few juniors who will kick on (read Guerra, Cordner and Leilua) and we can be back to the same position we were in from 2000-2004

          It is a great balance.

Some young, homegrown talent - Kenny-Dowall, the Aubusson's, Perrett, Paea, Nuuausala, Pearce, Symonds, Jones, Kennedy, Masoe, Cherrington (bar injury), Friend (if he returns)

An old warhorse club legend - Minichiello

Some important experienced players in key positions - Anasta, Ryles, Myles, Graham

Some bargain barrel buys - Kouparitsas, Conn, Guerra, Takairangi, Arona, Baitieri

...and the blistering young talent, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.

It is a shame that some of our other talented homegrown players like Shillington, Tupou, M Paea, Soliola, Shackleton and Sa weren't able to be kept or kick on like we had hoped them to, but regardless. O'Sullivan is doing something special.

Still not entirely sold on POS. I have no issues with his talent spotting of the really young kids but we've let some talent go under his watch as well.

He's a risk taker, and sometimes those risks pay off, sometimes they don't.

Remember he was part of the 'team' that signed Mason and cut Toups, Shillo etc loose. So it's not as if he can be absolved of any responsibility for those decisions.

Yes Mason was a HUGE **** up - but I don't think Toups & Shillo were willing to stay for the reasonable offers we made them - both their current teams paid overs. And Toups esp was not as consistent as we wanted him to be.

THe dogs went for the quick fix and bought established players... it might have had an immediate effect.
If you look at their team now alot of their best players are towards the end of their careers and they will need to recruit from a lot of players outside their club. I can't think of too many players in their club who can replace Kimmorley,
Patten, Ryan readily. They will not find a replacement for Hannett and/or Morris easily. Think Turner and El Masri....

I would of been furious if the Roosters even came close to offering Shillington the type of contract that the Faiders threw at him.

Can someone, anyone, point me to a single article that refers to how much Shillington's on at the Raiders?

Just one article that mentions a figure?

Most people wouldn't take a job in Canberra unless it was worth it financially.

Who cares? If they paid over 200k then they paid too much.

POS will not earn his keep until he unearths the next Inglis and Folau. Signing someone from another NYC or first grade team is not counted.
