  • Sonny Bill A Rooster?

Thought this deserved its own thread..

    booster posted -

"Roosters are close to announcing a new signing in the very near future, and he is a backrower."

    In this thread (http://www.thechookpen.com.au/forum/...?t=2161&page=2)

    Rugby League Week says -

"STAND by for some big news on Sonny Bill Williams' future within the next week. SBW's management has been working overtime trying to get the big man a new start in the NRL - and aren't far from making an announcement."

    Coincidence?

Assuming they ARE related, as a Roosters supporter, how would you feel about Sonny Bill..

    1) Returning to the NRL?
    2) Playing for the Roosters?

Just keen to hear others thoughts on this.. I know where I stand, I don't want him anywhere near the NRL, let alone the Roosters.

Computer says NO on both counts !!

he may be the biggest talent ever in the NRL, but the way he walked out on the Dogs (not that i care about them that much), The NRL and Rugby League as a whole, he should not be allowed to return.

In any case, his contract with the Dogs runs out around 2012 or 2013, and they will not allow any other teams to sign him until then.

you would think that Roosters management would have learnt by now, Sonny Bill is just another money hungry injury prone ex-bulldog hack, having finally rid ourselves of Mason and O'meley the club is in a position next season to chase some quality younger players with a bit of room to move under the salary cap, why waste the money on another overpriced bulldog reject.

from the Bulldogs point of view there is no way they would ever release him to the Roosters, I would only like to see him play for the Warriors.

remember wherever he ends up they will have to put up with Mundine and his crew as well.

          No, No and No.

Here's an idea - let's release 4 players to afford him: Guerra, Maubs, Symonds and Williamson. Then SBW and his untrustworthy manager decide he will become a dwarf thrower in Japan and walk out on us.

Surely, we have learned from past mistakes....

This will not happen I can't see the Roosters spending that sort of money for one player.

I doubt Brian Smith would allow such a thing.....but then again, Uncle Nick usually gets what he wants.

$BW may not be coming but Lima may be on the loose

Melbourne may let Lima leave March 23, 2010
.MELBOURNE Storm operations manager Frank Ponissi yesterday said the NRL premier would consider releasing prop Jeff Lima from the final year of his contract if he found a better offer from a rival club.

Ponissi's confirmation comes a day after Lima claimed that he did not know what his manager, Sam Ayoub, was talking about when Ayoub last week revealed he was shopping the prop around.

Ponissi said the Storm would consider - but not guarantee - releasing Lima, who had been close to returning to Sydney before signing a three-year contract in 2008, as long as it was satisfied that it could cover the loss of the New Zealand Test forward. Ponissi said he had not been approached by Ayoub with a request.

I hope not and I don't think it would happen. This club doesn't need a man like him to come in.

He'd be good for, say, the Warriors though.

If the Roosters have the $$$ to pay out compo to the Bulldogs and they want a French Rugby defector they would be much better served trying to throw some big coin at Gasnier if he can't do a good deal with the ARU.

Word is that Sonny Bill's run in France was the same as here. Few flashes of brilliance followed by big stints on the sidelines with injury.

We are in a rebuilding stage....a move like that would be taking 10 huge steps backwards.......

We're in the market for a back rower for short-term depths purposes.....we're not going to spend big coin on a guy who plays in that position given our long-term depth there.
