Very very good stats for the big man. Gets through a truckload of work, debuted midway through the 2004 season and was a fixture in the team regularly, churning through the runs and tackles up until 17 games into 2007, where he suffered a pretty severe injury that also curtailed the early parts of his 2008 season. He ended up finishing 2008 strongly however, and carried the good form into 2009.

Screw Ben Hannant, he is an overpriced money grub who has a sook about where he lives but ships himself off to whoever offers him the most regardless. The sort of props we should be looking at are guys like Shane Tronc, Matthew Scott, Jeff Lima, Nick Kenny, Luke Douglas or Chris Armit. These sort of blokes have got through LOADS of yards over the past seasons with minimal wraps, and wouldn't come with huge price tags. Nuuausala is worth persisting with in the long-run - he is still very young and raw - however at his age Paea should really be coming into his prime, yet he has been very lackluster and seems to have peaked under Fittler over late 2007 and 2008.

Next season, I think we need to look into purchasing a solid middle-aged prop (to compliment the younger explosive talents of JWH and Nuuausala, as well as the experienced Jason Ryles) with a very high workrate in both attack and defence. Someone like Tronc would be ideal.

Regarding Setu, however, I wouldn't mind seeing Smith do to Setu what he did to Fa'aoso. Fa'aoso was turned from an average first grader under Sticky and Anderson, into a very valuable strike weapon off the bench.
exactly, spot on. For next year i believe we should be looking at lining up an additional middle age prop like those you have mentioned above although id throw gibbs and weyman onto that list as well as rapira, packer and tolman who are still young but are showing they have it at first grade level already. I would also bring Tamou back - he is behind plenty at NQ and he is born and bred rooster - great for depth imo and i would sign him as a replacement for paea as well as securing another prop as you have said mack from the list above and maybe even those extras I have mentioned.

Then its a matter of securing inu into the backline probably as a direct replacement for mini to play outside graham and we are in business.

Weyman is getting a big head (not that his head isn't already big enough) now that he is playing in a successful Dragons team and is considered a shoe-in for Origin.

Rapira, Packer, Tolman and Snowden are four very strong, hard-working players, but unfortunately they are young, and the responsibility of carrying a pack would probably be too much for them to handle.

Tamou is a good player, but to be completely honest the result would be no different to Nuuausala, Waqa, Masoe, or whoever else we have there - he is a young Islander with genuine explosive ability but little fitness or lateral movement.

All true but i think that explosiveness of tamou is why he would replace paea in the side for mine. Let paea head elsewhere/ o/s and bring tamou in as his replacement. I think tamou has more potential and has a similar sort of game to paea except i think he has the ability to be more destructive - he has great ball skills, is bigger and more aggressive but also has a bigger engine as we saw in the TYC in particular.

ON rapira, packer, snowden and tolman, i agree with you more certainly. The best fit in the side from your original list imo would be lima. I think kenny would never leave and isnt as consistent as lima and scott just re-signed (i said it through all last year that we should make a play and missed out deluxe). Armit doesnt have it in him to lead a pack and i see JWH as our #10 down the track which would cause a bit of a problem if we had douglas imo. So its lima or gibbs.....

                  Welcome Lagi Setu.imata Sa.

Now if we could only add Jeff Lima, a quality hooker and a decent centre we might be a chance to make the eight.

Piss off FPN and that ex-rabbit pretender and we are getting somewhere.

Brisbane agrees to release Lagi Setu providing it can secure Shane Tronc from UK club

BRONCOS backrower Lagi Setu got his first start of the year for Brisbane against the Warriors at Suncorp Stadium yesterday.

But incredibly, in five days he could be standing opposite those same teammates after news he is set to join the Roosters.

It is understood Brisbane has tentatively agreed to release Setu on the proviso it can secure the services of former North Queensland prop Shane Tronc, who has requested a release from English Super League club Wakefield.

Setu joined Brisbane from the Dragons last year and after a slow start appeared to blossom late in the season, starring in the Broncos' late-season charge into the finals.

A powerful defender, Setu was a surprise omission from the Brisbane squad in the opening two rounds as coach Ivan Henjak preferred youngsters Matt Gillett, Mitchell Dodds and Josh McGuire.

A knee injury to lock Corey Parker opened the door for Setu to take his place against the Warriors, but it would appear his 22nd game for the Broncos will be his last. The Roosters have signed him to the end of 2012.

Roosters coach Brian Smith is said to be an unabashed fan of Setu and should the deal be completed, he is almost certain to go straight into the starting 17.

Tronc, 28, at 192cm and 113kg and also with 125 NRL games with the Cowboys to his name, will bring some much-needed size and experience to the Broncos pack.

The issues in the middle of the park for Brisbane were brought into sharp focus yesterday when the big Warriors pack steamrolled it in the second half of its crushing 48-16 loss.

After six seasons in Townsville, including an appearance in the 2005 NRL grand final, Tronc joined Wakefield this year and is just seven games in to a two-year deal.

However, the chance to return to Brisbane -- where he grew up and where his family still lives -- and play in the NRL was too strong a lure.

As revealed in The Australian, however, Test prop Ben Hannant is not an option because the disgruntled Bulldogs' asking price was understood to be well outside the club's range.
Fantastic they can get Colin Casey,Genaro Panzarino and Fred Pagano some Newtown Legends to meet him down at Henson Park to present him with his jumper.

Word is Bulldogs are now favourites to sign him.

Regardless, Setu is alright, but much like FPN, Cherrington, etc, he is a 'potential' player rather than a 'proven' player like Tronc or Lima. Tronc (2004-2009), Douglas (2006-2010), Scott (2006-2010) and Lima (2007-2010) have for extended time in the NRL been proven and consistent yardage gainers without any tremendous wraps or overhyping.
