Based on the past two rounds, that makes sense. Why on earth you'd put $20k on the Bulldogs is beyond me.

I get the theory boys but the loss still leaves a bad taste in my mouth - we got hammered, it was like the good work of the past two weeks just went out the window.

yes it was hot last week, and yes they have a short turn around however both our front rowers chalked up less than 10 hit ups between them, I know we did not have much ball but surely we can come up with a better effort than that

After suffering Fittler's post match media conferences after losses last year, in comparison Smith's was more than acceptable.

The point he made about 3 weeks in the heat was a fair call, and whilst he made light of it, at least he was honest about the build up to the match and the mistakes that were made.

He is on a learning curve himself as to how our players react to certain situations. He would have learned a lot from the display yesterday and will know better next time.

No point Smith slitting his wrists in Round 3, there's no other quality coach on the market who can replace him. So its onwards and (hopefully) upwards.

I'm liking Smith more and more. Why flog the players after the heat they've played in for 2 points the dogs were always going to fight tooth and farking nail for? He had two choices regarding the players, flog em and maybe get the points, or play in second gear and hope for no injuries.

It's a big call from a coach newly into a position, but I think he made the right one. Friday will tell.

                        Cheers.

Jesus Smith is impressive. The guy couldn't have handled that better. And he's dead on with just about every point he makes.

Thank god there's someone with a little sense running the team.

I'm with you on this Labroy - the theory makes sense but it feels awful in practice and seemed to take the team back to 09.

As for the issue of the heat, don't these players train in the heat? Wouldn't they be accustomed to slogging it out in the heat? The only explanation I can get my head around is that they don't train at the same intensity as they play but that only raises questions as to why.

Confused, annoyed and not really looking forward to watching the Roosters playing a heavily depleted boncos, which to my mind is a game that won't mean very much if a victory ensues unless the manner of such a victory is as emphatic as the loss to the team that wears blue and white.

The Loss sucks, and i don;t think that smith was envisaging a loss of that magnitude.

As to training, generally the only time you will see the players slog it out in heat similar to the past 3 weeks is in the off season, mainly due to it being summer, and they will generally be pushed further to obtain peak condition prior to the season.

As to during the year, daily training is not completed at game pace for obvious reasons like player burnout. Traning at NRL game pace 5 days a week and playing on the week end, we would see players drop off like flies both during the game and training with fatiuge and injury.

There is a fine line that the coaching staff walk between under preparing and over preparing, train them too light and they are not prepared for the game, train them too much and they are out of energy by the end of the first half.

In the end if we beat the broncos, we beat the broncos. There is no asterix because the broncos have injuries or the score is not as high as the dogs score. A win still gets you 2 points regardless of who the opposition is.

If we beat the broncos do you want to hand back the 2 points because they had injuries?

A new week, a new game, we can only play what is infront of us.

if the plan is to go easy every 3rd or 4th game to freshen up the team,i'm ok with that.so the next 4 games in order are broncs-panthers-raiders-dragons which means we go easy against either raiders or dragons.that would all depend on whether we get the 2 points the next 2 games which are both winable & do we freshen up 4 the dragons which is the tougher game??
