  • The Conn

In my opinion he has been are best forward all year. Should be pushing for a starting spot!!

Great thread, i just posted in another saying the same thing.

The bloke was lambasted pre-season about being a reserve grader, yet he performs better than 80% of our whole pack.

BTW, yesterday he played half the minutes of some players, yet made double the hit-ups and the same number of tackles.

I thought he was our best behind Pearce yesterday.

what i like of him compared to our other forwards is he keeps his legs pumping while being tackled and gets more metres. plus he has a really good offload!!

he played aust schoolboys union and league and was touted as a massive talent from a very young age. Distractions off the field as well as a raft of injuries have stunted his development to date but i feel that under an astute coach like smith, he will really start to fulfill his potential. I completely agree with the comments made here. I actually see him as a lock. he can do exactly what myles is there to do except is a little more mobile. By no means am i saying move nate but an interesting little bit of competition for him imo. He has the aggression, workrate and attitude to start in that role. Maybe start him at prop with myles at lock and they can both share the prop and lock responsabilities. would give us a bit more grunt and mobility up the middle in the opening exchanges. Paea needs to be benched no doubt - that is his role; impact player. My pack for this weekend:
          8. Conn
          9. Jaubs
          10. FPN
          11. Guerra
          12. Maubs
          13. Myles

          14. Paea
          15. Ryles
          16. Setu
          17. Jones

i agree. What separates the better forwards than the crapper ones are their ability to keep their legs pumping.. i remember we had Charlie Tonga.. he was one such player but his defence was ordinary and he wasnt very fit. Anyone remember what happened to him? He was a pretty big unit.

At this point in time, Jones does not belong in any first grade team.

Charlie Tonga would make my top 5 worst signings at Easts..

He would be nowhere now...Not even park footy..

The guy stole good coin from Nick..

Who was the other big unit Islander that Anderson signed from Park footy around the same time as Tonga? I remember the pair of them looked perfect in Jets jerseys!

I remember reading an article saying that Charles Tonga's [he didn't like to be referred to as Charlie] was a result of his enormous chest. It was then that everytime he dropped the ball[which was very often] I used to sat oh well that's what happens when you have such a big chest. The greatest lot of rot I have ever heard.

Daniel Con in my eyes has been superb for us. His defence is top notch IMO and he doesn't hesitate to do the dirty stuff in the middle of the park. He was a good buy for us from the Titans and was always rated as one to watch in his younger days. As roz stated, his development has been stunted by injuries but he seems to be looking very fit at the moment.
