Anasta is a lock plain and simple. Brian Smith needs to make the switch and put Carney at 6, Mini at 1.

During games like this there is not much he can do in terms of attack, his only way of 'inspiring' the team is through defence, and that he has covered.
He is a 5/8 playing behind an out-enthused pack and a backline filled with errors. The only thing he could of REALLY done better was to display a better kicking game, then again, all our kicks were shite today.
He lacked involvement altogether - he definitely could have run the footy more. I think it would have been inspiring if, when this team mates were having a casual stroll after a Penrith kick, Anasta charged back to the line to take a hit up, gain 12 yards and have a quick play-the-ball. He only made 5 runs today - maybe a move to 13 would encourage him to run more.
Fair point, though, not much he can do on a day like this.FONK

Fitzy would work his ass off in defence, and to me Anasta goes missing. I think it really highlighted alot about him, when we had busted our ass in defence, we get some field position, and the bloke tries a chip and chase. A leader would know to kick to the corner, and hope for a mistake.
Not up to it in my opinion.

I have been saying it for years, we will win nothing with this dud as our five eight.
We look better when pearce and carney have the ball in their hands.
When anasta gets involved, he usually mucks it up.
He just doesnt have it for the huge amount of money he is on. Thats why he failed at origin level and thats why the dogs let him go.
Shift him to lock for the rest of the season and just tell him to tackle (thats the only thing he is good at apart from going out with famous girls) and then shift him off to england at the end of the year.
We cannot rebuild anything with this dud taking up our salary cap.
I wait for the replies from the "but he is a nice guy and tries hard" crowd.

Anasta is a good ball runner, can put a guy through a hole, is good in defence and is a good leader. If he concentrates on this, then I think he will play a valueable role in the team.
He doesn't have the creativity to be a playmaker or the consistency in his kicking to be the 1st or 2nd choice kicker - the two areas that he is currently failing in.
At the moment, I don't think he knows what his role is. This could be because Smith hasn't made up his mind yet either. Or because Anasta hasn't adjusted to Smiths game plan yet.
There is also nothing wrong with being high profile - as long as your image is good as is Anasta's. High profile players are good for Marketing and Sponsorship dollars.

I actually don't see any evidence of the 'good leader' when the chips are down. I see someone who gets overly emotional with the referee's, who tries plays that are not on and who's kicking and passing game gets worse as the position on the scoreboard worsens.
The primary objective of our highest paid and high profile players is to win matches... Marketing and sponsorship dollars are important but I bet if we had a marquee player who was more influential in the winning of matches we would do just as well with these sides of the game.....

Though I don't neccessarily think the captain needs to be the best player in the team. There are a lot of management type duties that a captain also needs to do such as media commitments and sponsorship obligations. This is something Anasta does well and the basis of my comment on his leadership.
I would hate for the captaincy to be thrust upon Pearce or Myles. They have enough of a responsibility to themselves this year without having to worry about everyone else.
I agree that Anasta is not a 'marquee player' and shouldn't be paid as one. However I think there is a role in the team for him as a senior player.

Do you think Anasta as captain is the way forward for the side?
And has he given us value for money (asuming he is on $350-400K,which would be pretty close to the ballpark i would imagine)?
I definitely believe that Anasta should be captain of the side for 2010 at least. There is no one else who can it as well.
Myles has enough to concentrate on atm keeping on the straight and narrow. You don't reward a bloke who bought such shame on our Club with its leadership less than 12 months onwards. If he can keep clean then he is is probably next in line if and when Anasta leaves.
As for Pearce, I don't think he is mature enough to cope with it successfully.
Mini and Perrett need to concentrate on their own games, as whilst both are trying, they are error prone. And Ryles is injury prone.
Pea is struggling to keep his spot in the 17, so he's not in the picture. And I can't think of any others who could do it either.
I don't think there is any doubt that Anasta has given us value for money. He has given 100% every time he's played in the RWB and in my view, that's all you can ask of a player. Many would disagree, but that's how I rate a player, the passion and commitment he gives to a Club. Compared to our recent 'marquee' players this bloke stands head and shoulders above them all.
The Roosters have bought some extremely 'talented' overpriced players over recent years, most of which have not given us value for money. But Braith is not one of them.
Discuss?

He plays with passion & commitment, but he is not a leader of men..
And through bad management by the club,he has been well over-paid in his time here..
