Good to see you turning up after another loss. We never see you after a win. Funny that.

p.s. Saints went bang bang out during the finals ... thats all that matters, Not even Bennett can overcome the Dragons curse ... forever the bridesmaid, never the bride.

I think that most sides of the debate deserve some merit here.
      Fred with coach hating.
Smith supporters cause its only early days.

      Personally,
its been worse than I expected it to be if that counts for anything.

And I hate Smith but applaud his appointment.

Im happy with Smith atm,his only major error is the persistence of Carney at fullback!
Other than that,im prepared to give him time til his influence rubs off on our side..

Carney gets by at fullback on ability alone

he isn't one, but just as importantly, he doesn't need to be rucking the ball back from kicks and getting belted. Doesn't need to be contesting bombs and getting belted.

just get him in the line with the ball, some options, and a little time

Smithy has always been a little stubborn and if people say he has made an incorrect decision, he will dig his feet in until he proves them wrong. So I can't see Carney moving from fullback any time soon unless there is an injury to Braith or Pearce. But I don't mind Carney at fullback. It is a good mix with Pearce and Anasta IMO and hopefully Braith will play his part soon. Carney has pulled off some great try saving tackles and his attack at times has been first class. But when the team goes bad, he looks really bad back there.

My only problem with Smith is how he persists with Koups and how someone of his coaching ability can't see that he is not up to first grade standard. I refer back to him digging his feet in. Also, our coconut front rowers shouldn't be on th field at the same time. They spend more time in the opposition defensive line when we are attacking trying to get back. He must fix up the rotation if he wants to persist with both of them.

But having the likes of JWH, Symonds and Cherri out injured probably doesn't give him too many options. Hopefully when the first two come back, we will show a little more enthusiasm, go forward and have a speed in the defensive line.

There were massive dangers signs against the Broncos last Friday and it was far from a convincing win we were just lucky to come up against such a weak side.

Smith has always had a team to likes to spread the ball early and we do it (sometimes more than is needed) but continually make errors, hardly uncharacteristic of teams who spread the ball early in the season. Look at Parra and when they peaked last year and watch when they peak again this year.

Teams like the Dragons whose whole game plan relies on very few errors will always go well in the start of the season but when it comes to the back end they just don't have the strike power to beat the more fluent teams.

Coming out of the first 5 rounds with 6 points is nothing to sneer at, we haven't hit form yet and we're still adjusting to a new game plan. Smith has already re-built the club off the field, I'm willing to give him more than 5 games to do it on it.
                Hi Rooster 6,

I've been a Rooster fan for over 45 years, never in all that time have I heard or read a more intelligent, unbiaised or well laid out point of view as what you have in those few paragraphs, in our rebuilding phase that we are in at the moment, the best thing we can do that can benefit the team as a whole, is to show a bit more Patience, with the coach, the team as a whole and each individual player, after suffering under Ricky Stuart, Chris Anderson and Freddy Fittler over a period of 5 or 6 years and in most cases their repeated bad judgement calls in tactics, bench use or lack of it, their overall lack of basic football knowledge or foresight, now when we finally have a coach who has the guts to try and use different methods just to stay one step ahead of the other treams, all we seem to want to do is cut his legs from under him, if any of the players that we have at the moment don't come up to scratch, or have failings that we think we can't fix, then it's at the end of the player's contract that these issues should be brought up, not in mid-season, making it so much harder to build harmony and cohesion amongst the team, in closing we should remember, we have 16 teams each of them looking for 25 top flight players, obviously not every team can expect to get every player they want..
