Is it time to put mini out to pasture??

He has had a very extended time off with injury, as we all know, and there is no denying that he has given his all to the Roosters on all occasions that he has played.

But this year he seems that he is not the same mini of old, he seems very lacklustre and a shadow of his former self.

Has his time off and his injuries gotten the better of him?

Can mini get back to his golden boot form????

There's no doubt he's past his prime and will never get back to the form of 2003/4.

But, he's definitely still worth a spot in the team. He hasn't been brilliant but he hasn't done a whole heap wrong.

Defence was never his bag and that hasn't changed.

In attack, he's clearly not as explosive as he was, but he's still perfectly competent.

He adds a lot of experience to a very inexperienced side, and on top of the service he's given this club, he's worth his spot.

Firstly, out of respect for his service to the club.

Secondly, because as a footballer, he's still good enough to warrant a place in the squad, especially if he gets a chance at fullback.

There is not a great deal of competition for places out wide - Ben Jones had a fair game against Canterbury the other week but he's certainly not a three-quarter, and there aren't many other options.

I agreed with Mario when he made mention of this at the game but now I tend to agree with The Axe. I'd like to see him play fullback and see if he can return to his best.

About Mini and being out of position....

is he out of position??? remember he did start as a winger and technically moved out of position when stuart played him at fullback.

Should not an experienced player like mini be able to play both wing and fullback. Example, Brett mullins, for most of his career he was playing fullback, comes to the roosters, plays on the wing.

Is playing fullback as opposed to wing such a major difference when mini has experience in playing both????

I'm starting to think our team is unbalanced because Smith wants to stamp his personal touch on the place.
No brainers.....
1. Mini should be FB
2. Carney should be 5/8
3. Time to blood a young centre: Linnet, Williamson or BJ L
4. Anasta to lock

Then judge the players for next year. At the moment, IMO, we are unbalanced with players effective by not being in their best positions.

That game against the Cowboys last year showed me some things that really worried me about Mini.
I hope he overcomes these things

We are 5 games into Carney at FB experiment.

When we win, everyone was loving the idea.

When we lose, we have to scrap the plan immediately.

It's a working combination. I think he is looking more and more comfortable at fullback with each game. He took two bombs in spectacular fashion while under pressure. Granted, he didn't get to one but that it part of learning his positional play.

When we get a roll on in the forwards, he fits in perfectly.

I hope Brian sticks with it for a long period of time and really gives it a good shot, by the end of the season we will have the best idea as to whether it was a success or failure.

In attack, Carney is playing as a 5/8th, he overcalls Braith so it's not like he misses out on anything, also teams cannot wear him out on defence because he is not in the line.

Games like today will never see playmakers excel. No momentum or go forward - no chance for the ball players.
