It would also improve the side's kicking game and would improve Anasta's contribution - a move to lock would give him a license to just run the footy and not have to worry about ball playing and kicking, which at the moment he is doing averagely and Carney could do a better job of.
Most of that already happens though. Carney does a lot of the ball-playing anyway and, at fullback, has that added freedom to his running game. He also has a little bit less pressure on his ball-playing a little bit less predictability as to his involvement from the perspective of the opposition. The big plus though is that he isn't getting worn out making 20 tackles a game so he can exert most of his energy on the attacking side of things. The frontline defence is also better in general as a result - the current balance allows the exact same front line defensive personnel as the alternate one other than Guerra in for Carney which is obviously a plus.

I was very sceptical at first too, but only because I didn't know how Carney would go positionally at fullback in cover defence, defusing kicks etc - and he's been fine. I also think Anasta's current role actually suits Anasta a lot more than a genuine five-eighth or lock role would - he's playing somewhere in between the two. Anasta's a very good defender for a five-eighth but I don't think he'd be anywhere near as good if he had to defend up the middle of the ruck and make 35+ tackles a game should he play lock for the whole game.

I think the current combination suits the strengths and weaknesses of all the players concerned. I've been surprised in some parts but I'm very happy with it for now.

      Good points all round.

Its just that Anasta seems forced into ball playing which, simply, is not his bag. Maybe if he stayed in the 6 but gave up kicking and concentrating, basically, on running the footy. Carney must kick more.

Regardless, Anasta is not a 6... great clubman, nice bloke, but not a ball playing five eighth. Carney is. And there are good fullbacks that could cover the reshuffle.

        Competent fullbacks?

        Who?

The one that kicks the ball to the opposition to score?

Or the one with no pace?

Give your fellow Roosters supporters a break and get the **** out of here for a few months. Then come back with a less whinging whining attitude you skunk.

On the way back from the footy last nignt I was listening to Warren Ryan from ABC radio and he was quite scathing in his remarks on Anasta. He said that Anasta coasts during games and just does a bit here and there. He also said for a player of his ability and being captain he should be doing a lot more and leading by example ie Lewis, Lockyer and even Mitchel Pearse.
Look I have nothing against Anasta and like him, but the facts are so far this year he has been quite ordinary and looks out of place in the side.

Now I await Phantom and co dribbling about how good a clubman he is, how much he loves the Roosters etc the simple fact is when the opportunity was there tonight for Braith to lead the way and put the Raiders to the sword he did nothing. In fact I cant ever remember him dominating a game at all.

That being said he is a great runner of the footy but he isnt and never has been a 6. At teh Dogs he was carried by Sherwin and now here he is being carried by Pearce and Carney.

Taking up too much cap space Braith.
I dont need to dribble anything mate....

The bullshit running down your chin is clearly evident.....

There are people here who don't seem to understand that players' form fluctuates. Anasta is far from being in his best form at the moment, but that will change.

I thought his performance last night was pretty good, particularly in defence. He will be back to his best soon.

I agree. He is a little down on confidence and the uncertainty concerning his position with Carney playing so welll did not help. He will find his place and will be a great asset.
