  • Carney Out Linnett In????

Rookie may replace Carney for Roosters
    TIM BARROW
    April 20, 2010 - 1:08PM

Former Dragons under 20 star Kane Linnett could be called into the Roosters team for Sunday's Anzac Day game against St George Illawarra if fullback Todd Carney succumbs to a rib injury.

Linnett has been ultra-impressive for the Roosters' NSW Cup feeder club Newtown this season and could make his NRL debut after Carney suffered the injury in the thumping win over Canberra on Saturday night.

Roosters coach Brian Smith is likely to shift Anthony Minichiello to fullback to cover Carney, opening the door for Linnett to play on the wing or in the centres against his former club.

Newtown coach Greg Matterson yesterday praised the Port Kembla junior's form since switching from Wollongong to Bondi in the off-season.

"He'll get a crack at first grade at some point, he's pretty close," Matterson said.

"He was a bit crook in the off-season and lost a bit of weight, he only came good as we started playing trials.

"So he was a bit behind the eight ball there, but since then he's been fantastic."

Carney is expected to be named in the Roosters line-up today, but will have to prove his fitness later in the week.

I can't see us outscoring them if Carney doesn't play.

yeah great idea. Lets get the debutant to mark Morris or Cooper.

      Good thing Carney will play.

I hope Carney does play. But from the story we can assume that Linnett seems next in line ahead of Williamson and Towers.

From what I've seen, every single player in the NYC is a turnstile. I don't think they encourage NYC players to tackle at all. Scorelines like 38-36 are the norm.

Don't do this to me. If I ever needed a win, it's this weekend.

That makes two of us - it will silence the dragqueen supporters around me no end.

seen little of the guy, but your argument doesn't go to that

Don't throw a debutant(e) in because he has to mark 2 good centres?

which team would you want to start him against?

if they have an opinion of the guy, give him a shot.

it's round 7, this game isn't everything, and even if it was, the chances of him, if selected, costing us the game at any level are remote

or we could be mundane and come up with some sort of Perrett/Mini/Jones rotation option ....

again, if they have an opinion of the guy, give him a chance

Jimmie Olsen, does anyone down at HQ actually have a ****ing clue? I HAVE seen the guy, and Morris or Cooper would eat him up.

Stop carrying on like you know football.

I reckon ts Smith silly buggers. Teh Dargons will be looking at two things this week. Carney and Perace's games and combination. We throw some doubtthere and it gives bennett two choices, change strategy or assume Carney is still there and follow the original game plan. It may throw some doubt in teh players though because neither Hornby or Soward are teh type to power on and take the game by the throat. Seeds of doubt grow very well in their minds.

The Dragons will play the same way regardless of whether Carney is there or not. Bennett is too good a coach and too experienced to fall for that old trick
