  • the finger will be pointed at Peter O'Sullivan

as head of recruitment for the Storm for some of the time they cheated the cap there is no doubt they will be coming for O'Sullivan as he had to know what some of the players were being paid as he was responsible for signing plenty of them.

hopefully he was only privy to the contracts of the juniors as he signed them, we might cop a bit more attention if they find something wrong with O'Sullivan's activities.

I was thinking the same thing. I just hope the rort is specifically tied to the tier 1 salary cap.

I think you'll find the money was being given to the big name players, something I doubt O'sullivan had much to do with.

Correct, but that certainly implicates Bellamy.

If so, kick the bastard out of Origin and make sure he can't get his grubby hands on a RL club ever again.

Recruitment officers, coaches, players, player managers etc dont juggle figures that make the cap work. Their roles are not involved in the cap and its make up.

                  You know it makes sense.

You don't think players managers know that their player are to report say 400k on the books, and 100k on the side. Please, the NRL are pretecting the players at all costs. But to say a player and players manager don't know what is going on is a joke.

Bellamy and friends would decide who he wants at the club, so what different players are worth.

So, as a hypothetical, say they were using 100% of the cap and Cameron Smith came off contract and demanded improved terms, Bellamy would have to make the judgment whether it was worth squeezing out another player to keep Smith.

If the coach does not 'juggle the figures' in this sense, then he ought to be sacked for incompetence.

Bellamy surely must have realised "hey, Inglis, Smith, Slater and Cronk have all had $100,000 pay rises this year but we haven't let anyone go".

I heard John Hartigan (Head of News Ltd) say on 2UE that there are 5 ex-Storm staff that are implicated. The only one he'd name was Brian Waldron. You would have to think O'Sullivan had knowledge of this.

I didnt say they didnt know.

I said they dont make the salaries balance.

Player managers are PAID by the player to secure the best deal they can. Their job has zero to do with salary cap.

Its only the management at Melba that should be blamed here.

I find it funny the NewsRL have acted so harshly and swiftly. Its funny cos they OWN Melba. Surely they know whose getting paid what at their OWN club??? The same club they kick 8-10 mill into each year.

Agree 100%. This is the problem. To think players, coaches, and managers had no idea is absolute rubbish. They were all in cahoots on this one.

The game cannot afford to implicate the players. I am sure managers will be getting a kick in the ass.

As I stated in another post.
The players themselves would have known what was going down.
That means that they were accepting money knowing that the person organising the payment was commiting fraud, therefor they are an accomplice, are they not?
