I heard John Hartigan (Head of News Ltd) say on 2UE that there are 5 ex-Storm staff that are implicated. The only one he'd name was Brian Waldron. You would have to think O'Sullivan had knowledge of this.

O'Sullivan is probably under witness protection now. Lets just hope he and Waldron doesn't get hold of the metal bar from the exercise bike.

I find it funny the NewsRL have acted so harshly and swiftly. Its funny cos they OWN Melba. Surely they know whose getting paid what at their OWN club??? The same club they kick 8-10 mill into each year.

That means that they were accepting money knowing that the person organising the payment was commiting fraud, therefor they are an accomplice, are they not?

In all honesty all they could cop is a tax notice IF they didnt pay tax on their extras.

If ANY club said to ANY player we will give you 400K and 100K on the side ANY player and their manager would be sweet with that.

it was this statement from Hartigan of News Ltd that got me worried about POS possible involment.

"There are other people that I believe are involved that are no longer with the club - our enquires so far have identified five people who knew about the efforts to conceal these payments," Hartigan said.

what is interesting is that the NRL auditing team has access to a players tax return to confirm income, and obviously some of the Storm's higher profile players haven't been including these additional payments on their tax returns over previous years, otherwise the NRL would have discovered this massive fraud earlier.

wouldn't surprise to see the ATO make examples out of some of these players as a deterrent to others, with massive fines or even jail time possible depending on the length/scale of deception.

Do you know this for a fact?

I'm sure I read an article that suggested the Cap Auditor was hamstrung by the fact that he had no right to view a player tax return.
