His one on one defence is still great, there were at least 2 try savers today, one on the line and one where the dragons made a massive break in the first half down the centre of the field. I am very suprised how well he defends in the last line.
This is a good point - he was excellent in that department today, and I think those try savers came when we were still in the game.

Yea RWB, they were both in the first half, the first he held up over the try line, put his body in a good position, the second was stopping the line break.

          Perrett to fullback.

          Carney to five eighth.

          Symonds to left centre.

          Graham to left wing.

          Ryles to start.

          FPN to bench.

          I thought Paea did OK.

Still not sure either Dolphin but I'm prepared to give this experiment more time.
What a massive pity that James Aubusson is injured as he would be a natural to replace Pearce at 7.

Everyone wants Carney at 6, no one mentions how the defensive load will/may blunt his attack.
In defence, Anasta tackles everything that's near him.
Then in attack Carney comes into the line AND PLAYS 5/8 NOW, for tackles 4,5,6.
He's our main unstructured spark, lets not wear him out tackling, then we'll never have a chance to score.

Lone Rooster, i was thinking the same last night, if Jaubs was fit, to throw him in at half, but that would mean more of kouparitsis at hooker.

Chookies, i think Carney would be fine, his defence at the back is very strong, he is a good one on one tackler and will bring players down more often than not.

Oh dear, there's the flaw in my thinking.

Dear Jake Friend, why oh why couldn't you drink in moderation?

Good point, Johns and Freddie made a mention of it on Sunday.

I'm not worried about his ability to defend, it's the ability to attack that will suffer with the extra defensive load.

Freddie said they used to target him when they used to ay the raiders and thought it a good idea that he is at fullback as he is a modern syle fullback....that is, he can pass the ball...unlike mini and perret.

Carney needs to get his hands on teh ball almost every play and needs to be in the heat of teh ruck. His deceptive step and speed as well as his gun passing game would cause headaches to any team. From Fullback he doesnt touch the ball nearly as much as our top strike weapon should.

Can't agree with that mate. Pearce is the only one who should be touching the ball that much as our organizer. Carney must pick his moments otherwise he will dilute his effect on the game.

People often mention the effect of defence on his attack, and it's a good point. But Sunday illustrated that Carney is a good tackler, and besides, coping with defence is a challenge all halves in the comp have to overcome.

I think the need for more flair in the halves (including a stronger kicking game), as well as the fact Carney looks uncertain at the back against good attacking kicks, are stronger reasons for a move to the halves than being worried about the risk of him getting tired from tackling.

I hate seeing Carney on a hiding to nothing everytime he returns a kick.. He is too small and gets absolutely smashed... Don't worry about Carney's defence at 5/8.. I would back his defence over Lockyer and Soward.. Carney did play 5/8 for Canberra and very successully, why the problem now.. Anasta is a roadblock for our attack and offers nothing there now except for poorly placed kicks..
