Mate, he spent 4 years there at Canberra without a problem.. Now suddenly he shouldn't be playing 5/8.. what a joke.

I'm not doubting his ability to defend. I just think it will tire him out and render him less effective.

Let's face it, in attack, he is playing as a 5/8th in attack. He overcalls our halves. Braith's involvement in the combination is not oiled well enough yet but it will come.

As for his run backs, I agree, I hate to see him get smashed, on top of that he doesn't give us good kick returns. If he played a bit smarter, he can counter both of those points. I actually think our back three need work on kick returns.
I was watching the young winger Gordon, from the Titans. He has without a doubt the best kick returns in the league. As soon as he catches the ball, he accelerates trying to eat up as many meters as he can, then a couple of meters away from the defensive line, he dances around and succumbs to a softer tackle.

Our blokes take an eternity getting there, do a Uturn worthy of the m4 motorway, crab across the field and as a result get smashed.

In Canberra he was the only go to man. At the Roosters he has Pearce to add into the equation. The two playing structures couldn't be more different. Canberra's playing style suit a playmaker like Carney as they provide the space and broken play for them to operate. Now we are witnessing Campese do the exact same thing that Carney was. Unfortunately that playing style isn't conducive to success as it often backfires though errors.

I have no doubt he should be playing 5/8th in attack, but to suggest that he gets the ball 3-4 times during a set so that he can create something is crazy. He is part of our playing structure. He is not THE playing structure.

Well Pearce is gone, so its even more correct now. Carney MUST be the one.

For mine Carney is using more juice and being blunted in attack from taking kick returns and getting smashed than he would playing in the line. And why do we need a fullback who can play like a 5/8th. The two best fullbacks in the world in hayne and Slater arent 5/8ths and have dynamic running games. I agree with melon Carney needs to be in around the ruck where he can get more ball and let him use his great footwork on tired forwards more

without Pearce, he's more of the only go to man than he was at Canberra

                  Symonds to left centre.

                  Graham to left wing.

                  Ryles to start.

                  FPN to bench.

                  I thought Paea did OK.
Agree with everything except symonds to the centres - he is too slow and he himself admits it.

I guess so but at least he can hit a hole and actually play like a centre. Graham is not a centre and SKD is...SKD!
