Leilua sure, but he shouldn't be blooded via the second row - I would also take him in the centres over Jones 100/100 times.
We are all forgetting one thing.. Defence, I saw Blair play in NYC early this season and his defence was very shoddy.. Granted he is young and I expect it will improve over time but I really don't believe he is ready now.. Leilua on the other hand seems a better replacement for Jones right now.

agreeed but i think macks point is good. i also like my 3/4 line to have 2 wingers, one big, strong powerful one good in the air and one fast agile one with a skillful centre with great footwork and speed to partner the big winger and a powerful centre to partner the quick winger. I see Blair and Williamson as the ideal pairing with leilua and maubs in the backrow. The problem with perrett is he doesnt really fit into any category as a winger - not really big or fast but is definitely of value imo so we need to find a winger to complement him and i think the ideal signing would be matt duffie. he wouldnt break the bank, at worst would compete with the likes of kerillah, naughton and moeakiola for a wing birth and is both lightning quick and exceptional with a high ball. Down the track i was keen on seeing something like this:
      2. Duffie/Moeakiola/Kerillah/Naughton
      3. Blair
      4. Williamson
      5. Perrett

      13. Maubs
      12. Cordner
      11. Leilua
      8. Myles (c)

      16. Symonds

Quite a good balance there imo but with williamson leaving, it begs the question of going into the market for a new centre. I for one actually rate SKD - he has some absolute howlers but his natural ability in particular to beat tackles and get his arms free is a sight to behold. I am still of the opinion that with some serious training on ball handling and tackling technique in particular, this guy could be anything. I think you are honestly hard pressed to find a centre that shrugs off tackles as easily as SKD does he just lets himself down big time with his ball handling, tackling and decision making. Up to last week against the cows he seemed to have been making steady progress along with pez on becoming more consistent and ironing out errors but his shocker last weekend put things back into perspective. Will be interesting to see how he bounces back. but for balance down the track, i think SKD and blair have very similar styles of play - tall, footwork etc so with williamson and maybe even jp departing, a new centre couldnt hurt either.

      • Have you seen SKD hit a line hard and create a linebreak? I haven't. I have only seen him being set up by players inside him. The worst part about it is his passing game is dreadful. I can't remember when he has set up his outside winger.

        Give someone else a chance.

im not defending his form but looking back through the years, this bloke makes ground and breaks tackles like none other i dont even know how tbh. he just has it in him. this year alone in 9 games he has made 10 errors (4 of which came last week) which is not too bad imo; he is averaging well over 100 metres a game with a couple of games up around the 200 mark and has broken 39 tackles. thats with 3 tries, 5 line breaks and only 20 missed tackles. Not too bad at all. ofcourse stats arent the be all and end all im just trying to show that he does have some awesome natural talent that if nurtured could turn him into a real super player. in fairness, he was in everyones good books and was being heaped with praise along with perrett for their combo and much improved/consistent performances up until last weekend. I think he is worth another chance. comes off contract at the end of next year which imo is perfect - by then smith would have had a good chance to try and fix his game and if he hasnt got it by then, sayonara

            • Well, I for one am quite annoyed at losing Ryan Williamson to the cows but what do I know - I'm just a know nothing Roosters supporter. Something tells me he will go on to bigger and better things at the cows and show the Roosters how stupid they were to let him go. Just another example of sub-standard, impatient management and recruitment. I'm not going to wish Ryan good luck as I don't think he needs it.

Above, The Mack wrote "and the now leaving (?) Du Plessis" which if true has added to my thoughts above about management and recruitment. Why bring JP over here and then part ties after just a few months - it doesn't make sense and is really annoying.

Is this Roosters team never destined to have a real centre again? Someone said it perfectly earlier in this thread about not liking centres but liking slow backrowers. Fark this team is giving me the sh1ts. It is starting to feel like 2009 all over again.

              • The club has tried to make Williamson fit in to Sydney life but his heart is set on going back home.

What you say there is contradicted somewhat by murry's (?) earlier post where he said that Ryan wasn't initially interested in moving but since has grown keen on the idea (or words to that effect). Ultimately, if his heart is set on going back home, then that makes it easier for me to accept his departure.

                  • There can often be much more than a players skill or potential in these decisions. Maybe Williamson is not showing the right attitude at training. Maybe he is not listening to coaches. Maybe he is not happy in Sydney. Maybe he has the Josh Lewis big head syndrome. Who the hell knows. We have seen him be freakish at SG Ball but that is no guarantee of success.

Josh Lewis was one of the most highly rated players in Flegg and he has now been a failure at half a dozen clubs.

As far as Duplessis is concerned, maybe he just wants to go home and play for the Springboks.

Du Plessis is not planning on going anywhere.

                        That's good news if true.

The sad thing is with players like this is that there is no progression through the grades. He needs a few seasons of under 20s then experience in reserve grade with the odd game in firsts if he is doing well.

It's a disgrace that we don't have this system in place.

We have the best rugby league competition but the worst grading structure.

No argument from me.. the whole structure of the NRL is all wrong..

                            • I agree on Roz's forward pack.

I would like to see next year:

                              8. (???)
                              9.
                              10. Ryles
                              11. Leilua
                              12. Aubusson
                              13. Myles

                              14.
                              15. Leilua
                              16. Hargreaves
                              17. Nuuausala

That leaves us one empty slot in the front row. If Paea, Masoe, Kennedy or Arona aren't seen as the answer, we need to really go hard for Tolman or Packer or someone like that.

Then the following year, hopefully Cordner is ready, he can come in at lock, and shift Myles back to the front row.

He's an 18 year old kid who has grown up dreaming of playing for the Springboks. Of course he is going to say that.

I can't understand why South Africa hasn't embraced rugby league. There is potential for growth in the sport there.
