In those days free tickets were given with every apple pie or sundae from McDonalds..

In saying that, Horry could not pay someone yesterday to take 4 tickets off his hands..

Hardly the hottest ticket in town..

Lucky to get 5000 last night..

I went... unfortunately. Raced from the Ryde area in peak hour traffic, I know some have traveled more, but it still sucked. Lucky parking only cost me $6.

Four key differences on the old Monday Night Football:

        1. As people have pointed out - lots of free tickets

        2. These were always marquee games (not like now where it's the fifth best game of the weekend)

        3. They had name bands playing for before game and halftime entertainment.

        4. It was only for part of the season so it could be marketed as an event.

Now, it's just for pay TV and they don't give a shit about the crowd.

        Typical NRL!

I was in school then and i remember being a Fitler/Ricko/Fitzy/Morley disciple. Can u imagine that same passion today for Anasta? Thats what he was payed for. To become our Marquee player. To be our brand. He is Sh%%t
very well said, theres no life in the team anymore, no personalities no champions.

Spot on, Monday night football used to be an event - kind of like how Friday night football used to be. (remember how special it felt to be on Friday night in the 90's?)

Now everything is just whored out to TV and hard to care about, it's rare to get a "big" event feel during the season anymore.

No personalities at the moment because they are supposedly on the "straight and narrow". Maybe the alcohol is how they got their personalities haha.

JWH will bring some personality back into the team. I look forward to following him in the coming years.

As for Myles, Pearce and Carney, I am more than happy for them to produce the type of football they have been playing this year and leave there personalites in the 2009 public bar....

Unfortunately the lack of personality in sport is not confined to the Roosters or the NRL but a consistent theme in sport in general.
