    Not in attack.

Especially in attack. Phillips was a lot more creative than Mini.

As much as I loved Lukey, Minichiello, at his best (which we saw, all too briefly, in the early-to-mid 2000s), was a class, or two, above.

Mini in his prime was just phenomenal - a natural, pure and simple.

Attack is just 50% of the game. Mini's defence has always been poor. Plus he can't pass and his hands have always been ordinary, he's always been good for a couple of easy dropped balls a game. I agree with coggy, he's always been a bit overated in my view.

And that golden boot is a load of rubbish, voted by idiot journalists, it's very political. Freddy was by far and away the best player in those years

Fred and Coggy you two have lost the farken plot.....sorry but if you two believe that you are clueless......

Coggy watch this one for Mini's lack of attack......

As for the golden boot Fred that was in 2005 when Freddy was on his way out not sure what "all those years means"

No disrespect to Diamond as he was a top Rooster with the heart of a lion but he isn't in the same league as Mini.......

At his best, Mini was in the Top 10 players in the comp. EASILY.

Amazing video, but depressing too. Mini is a shadow of his former self. Its easy to forget how dynamic he was back then...always threatening the line.

Does he still have the speed to pull it off? We'll never find out if he keeps running sideways like he has been lately. He's not a dummy half runner, not a playmaker, that was never what made him great. Always was amazing blasting through gaps.

Billy, Freddy was the best player in the comp for years. How many golden boot crap and dally m awards did he get? Heck, the idiot journalists had finch as runner up in the dally Ms one year - thanks to Freddy. Those awards are judged by moron journalists like rothfield etc. They don't mean anything as far as I'm concerned.

I think most of us have overated many of our players in that decade of excellence. Without Freddy pulling the strings on the field as a player, most of them couldn't piss straight. I'm not saying that mini wasn't a good player or devastating ball runner but the way some fans think he was a god makes me sick. Give me mullins, Garry Jack, eadie, slater and the like who did it week after week for a decade on the field both in attack and defence.

Agreed, hardly ever breaks tackles even now.

Mate this thread isn't about Freddy, as far as I am concerned Freddy is the best player I have seen wear the mighty red, white and blue. I care little what the critics say.

Mini until injured was head and shoulders above fullback in the game at that time. He was Man of the series in Origin, rep player of the year, scored tries at will, almost always broke the first tackle when returning the ball, and outstanding under the high ball. Was he the perfect player?......no, Did he make mistakes?........Yes, plenty of them !!

Can you go and watch that video I posted, the player you portray isn't on there, the player voted by the club as the centurion team as fullback is. Unfortunately you only see the player as he is today and to me that is a shame....

So. It's a highlights video that goes for 9 minutes. You could easily make a lowlights video that goes for 9 minutes as well. Most of that stuff in the video shows him scoring off other players good work. I'm not saying he's not a good player, just overrated.
Anyway it's my opinion, does that make me "farken clueless" if I don't agree with you?

Coggie you could make a lowlights video about any player that would make them look retarded if you really wanted to. My point is that Phillips could not do the things that Mini could do it's that simple to suggest otherwise is pretty silly IMO.....

Does it make you clueless to not agree with me...........yeah All jokes that was harsh I just get the sense that people disregard the contributions of players when they are either gone or at a low point and I think you need to step back and look at what each player has done over their career.

It's like saying Fitzy was only ever good for his kicking and giving away penalties.....

I think the point with Mini is that his strength was always as a running fullback - the video highlights this. He ran hard and at holes and was stupidly quick and strong.

Unfortunately with players like this, age does weary them. The playmakers can get by on one leg (Lewis was incredible at the end of his career and he couldn't even run), but Mini does not have the varied skills to fall back on when his speed and strength fail him.

I remember once he took a great catch and Rabbits said "sign him up for AFL" - Gus drily replied "that could be a problem, he can't kick to save his life".

Love Mini and at his best he was one of the best but he seems to be a shadow of his former self.

BTW, Phillips had far more skills than he is given credit for.
