I expect Brian Smith to finish his contract with the club, its concerning that he has not won a premiership in his first grade coaching career but this is his best chance to mould this team into a title contender. We have a great potential 6-7-9. Our forward pack is strong, its really putting it together and commitment.

For example the Tigers vs Souths game, the Tigers should not have beaten Souths but their attitude and application to the game plan was executed to perfection.

Some key points, Todd Carney is clearly injured and the new play the ball rule has affected our side which loves the quick play the ball but we should adapt and i expect the team to make the top eight. The competition is completely different come September - Its anyones.

The mcyntyre system is a joke, if Braith didnt sink that Field Goal we would of been eliminated and not made Last year's GF. Lets be patient as supporters.

The ONLY coach I would welcome to easts, after the Smithy years, is Bellamy.

He is the only current nrl coach that can take us to the next level.

When the time is right, Uncle Nick should offer him half of Bondi to get him up here. Mr handshake will never be an option again.

also get Matt Johns, not Andrew, on board to get the best out of Jr Jr. He coverted Cronk into a test halfback.

Bellamy's success is entirely based on cheating whether it be introducing the grapple tackle or well... being a few cool million over the salary cap. He has been an Origin failure and has absolutely no idea. Sure the Storm is still good, but who did they lose besides Inglis? Seriously, it's a joke...

Bennett works with teams made entirely of rep players and still loses occasionally.

I doubt that we would have done as well with either of these 2 hacks coaching us last year.

21 years without a premiership, still employed, means Smith knows how to grease people wih influence.

The luncheon brigade will find excuses for him

We have a team that is well known for revolting against their coach & playing absolutely appalling until a more favourable coach is introduced.
How long do think it will be before this trend kicks in for Smith? Has it already begun? What are you guys hearing? Is there any dissention amongst the players towards Smith?

I suppose you believe Sticky, Hagan, and Lang are good coaches because they won a premiership.

Smith's coaching performance in 2001 was more impressive than Hagan's despite losing to Hagan's team of champions in the grand final.

Just as those with an agenda will take any opportunity to knife him. Smith took us to the GF last year and has us sitting 2 and 3 this year even though we all agree we're playing like busteds. And he's not even halfway through his tenure. I'm guessing success is something different for each of us.

You've set yourself up here to be either a champion prognosticator or a clueless moron. Time will tell.

                    17 egos versus 1.

If I put in a half arsed performance at work like that, I'd get docked hours.

A lot of Roosters believe their own bullshit.

It doesn't take some sort of mystic ability to realize that 4 years was too long.

                      It takes information.

I repeat myself to defend my position but seriously look at the facts.
                      A 2 or 3 year tenure.........great. 4 years is moronic.

21 years, no premiership, a collaboration of his ex players, staff and friends who don't rate him.

                          John Lang's got a premiership - let's sign him.

Add to that some wild assumptions (see below) and personal beliefs. I’m guessing you would rate Smith’s performance thus far as being a failure whereas I would rate him a success…thus far.

Sorry Trew, but if you think a 3 year contract is great it’s not that much of a stretch to embrace a 4 year one, seriously. And as for your wild assumption that he collaborates and surrounds himself with people that don’t rate him I find totally unfathomable. If Smith was to surround himself with people that “don’t rate him”, question him and his decisions, great! It means we have true collaboration within the coaching staff. On the contrary, if he was that bad a coach he would surround himself with sycophants?

I think you’ve gone off too early, but then time will tell.

                            Chook.

I don't see the problem with a 4 year deal at a club - it generally takes a year to really suss out the club and its players for a start. Fact is we overachieved last year and everyone thought it would be a fait accompli the same would happen this year.

The problem this year is that some of our players are still living on their reputations of last year, without putting in the effort they were then. Smith will only tolerate that for a certain time before the shyte starts hitting the fan.

If the powers at the club aren't happy with Smith after, say 3 years, he'll be given a payout and off he goes. Nothing unusual there, it happened at the Roosters a number of times. Remember one G Murray who was re-signed and sacked within the same season.

I will always be grateful to Brian Smith for one achievement alone - bringing some respectability and accountability back to our club, something that had been lacking for some years before. If he achieves nothing more, than I won't be criticising him.

Our club is still a work in progress. Give it time. Of all the coaches available at the time we signed Smith, he was the right person for the position and still is.

It's some of our precious players that need a kick up the backside to get them into gear. I have no doubt that Smith will oblige very shortly unless performances improve.

from what I am hearing quite a few blokes will have to sort them selves out quick smart or our season is already over.
