  • What to do, What to do?

The Backline that played tonight, albeit against an understrengthed Storm looks to be what we need

Carney plays better on the frontline, We can't move Pearce, and we have too many forwards for Anasta to move to Lock

Frank Paul seems to have secured his spot at lock, and Maubs and Myles will be the back row, Leilua outplayed Symonds, and Koups and Guerra are very good depth for the backrow

Ryles has one spot sewn up in the front row, with JWH definetely in the 17 somewhere. That leaves Masoe, Kennedy, Conn and Paea fighting for 2 spots

Friend is a definite as an 80 minute hooker

I really hope Linnett doesnt get dropped when Smith puts Carney back at Fullback, but who do we drop (More than likely out of him and Perrett)

We have the team and depth to go far this year, its just the consistency we have to improve on

Ken-Dumb should be dropped. Unfortunately Smith is in love with him.

I thought Carney was one of our worst on the night.

Given that he is playing in 7 and not 6, he is still playing too laterally.

      Bad defence too.

Can't drop Sammy on the back of that performance.

I think graham and linnet work well together - both very similar sorts of centre/wingers - hit holes, speed, genuine line breakers so them operating in tandum down the left looks the go. Pez and SKD with maubs inside them i still think is coming along steadily in terms of a combination and mini is definitely best suited to fullback steaming onto balls in support play like he always does at his best - he picked his moments much better tonight and didnt overplay his hand. thats the key to mini playing well imo. Id like to see something like this:
        1. Mini
        2. Graham
        3. Linnett
        4. SKD
        5. Pez
        6. Carney
        7. Pearce
        8. FPN
        9. Friend
        10. Ryles
        11. Maubs
        12. Myles
        13. Anasta

        14. Conn/Kennedy/Koops
        15. JWH
        16. Masoe
        17. Symonds/Leilua

Let FPN share the prop and backrow responsibilities with ryles as the out and out prop. Anasta can drift along with myles between middle of the ruck and edges in attack and defence facilitating carney and pearce together in the halves.

You cant tackle the bloke one on one. Not saying he doesnt make stupid mistakes, but he is the best attacking outside back in the club.

Id prefer to keep him for his good, then drop him for his bad

He gave away 3 penalties as well as the usual mistakes and a token shit pass.

              I'd rather:

              3. Linnett
              4. BJ

              10. Ryles
              11. Myles
              12. Morbs
              13. Fpn

              14. Kennedy
              15. Symonds
              16. Masoe
              17. Brunton

Anasta, Ken-Dumb to Newtown or released.

And whilst people are struggling to tackle him one on one, he's running across field not forward.

He's a useless park football hero.

That is a very similiar side to what i want to see. Though hit ups wise you only have Ryles, FPN, Myles starting and after 10-15 min of just them they will become very sluggish in the middle of the park in defence

Maybe Carney coming off the bench around the 25 min mark to allow us to have 1 more big man in the early stages to make our metres upfield??

Look outside the circle and see the oppurtunities he creates for us

He may stuff something up after making his break, but at least he makes his break, if he didnt we'd still be 50 metres upfield

He makes breaks sure, only after he's run sideways and backwards.

He's run 10 metres backwards just to make the break, then get the break, run 50 metres down field then blow it with his usual mind blowing mistakes.

                      As I said.

                      ^ off he goes.

fair point. i dont see it as a major issue. look at it this way - myles and FPN although doing well on more of a backrow capacity are and will be best suited to frontrow down the tack. Both have played mostly frontrow in their careers to date so therefore when you throw in ryles who has a quite a big engine when it comes to hit ups in particular i think between the 3 of them plus all the work that the likes SKD and pez do coming out of our own end plus the odd run by Anasta or aubusson and i think there is another there to get us going forward.

Then we can bring men mountains like masoe and JWH in who will add plenty of fire, aggression and size to get us moving forward

Thats right, if you go them 3 you need Pez and SKD in there to pick up the workload
