You are pretty close to the mark Red.
The Faiders cryed foul when we were chasing Clyde and another team mate.
Daley screamed "they are trying to break our team up".
The Faiders then rung The Broncos up,Morgan and Ribot got involved, and they were the first team to sign up to sewer league.
The irony then was their team got broken up anyway with Stuart and Clyde going to the Dogs...
and of course Daley stating he would never play for the ARL ever again...

You mean Artie? He tried to bring Daley up a few years earlier, Daley was dead keen as he was a Roosters supporter but Ron Jones wanted him to wait another year so he signed instead with Canberra.

Super League was started by New Ltd, due to thier involvement with cable TV which was being rolled out in 95'.
Ribot was seconded by them to persuade clubs to join them.
All because they wanted the League on cable TV to sell subscription.

The fact that clubs jumped on board was to do with the large sums of money being thrown around, that's why The Raider joined up with them so they could pay the big dollars to keep thier team together, didn't work!
Obviously some clubs stayed loyal to the ARL when they started to match the big dollars, the money was put up by Packer to save nine from losing the game to pay TV.
That is also when players began earning the really big dollars.
I'll never forget some of the rumours that where doing the rounds at the time, about who was going where and for big money, a very unfortunate period for the game.

            Good post Kramer!
If you read Phil Gould's book, there is a lot of information about the super league war and it is a good read!

not a big fan of this possible move, it was a horrible injury he sustained last year and he has struggled to get back on the field this year and really stacked on the weight while out injured, there are better options out there.

Sounds like the faders are druming up business to get a sellout for next sunday's game.

With Todd playing for the first time in a while in Canberra and against his old club, to a lesser extent Phil "the dill" Graham, and our links to probably signing Duggan. I'd say their marketing dept will be promoting the game as a 'grudge match'.

              Crikey.

I wouldn't want us to sign Justin Carney. He isn't the type of player we're looking for IMO. He is very similar to Sam Perrett due to the fact that they are very strong runners of the ball and have very good leg drive through contact. But other than that, I don't see Carney giving us much else.

A little bit of what the kid can do.

Oh well, as long as we aren't paying overs, if Smith can do what he normally does with these guys, we might see him emerge as a handy player... but not much else, tbh.
