Another Carney crows for Roosters Another Carney crows for Roosters
    BY CHRIS DUTTON, RUGBY LEAGUE
    02 Jul, 2010 08:00 AM
The rivalry between the Canberra Raiders and Sydney Roosters is set to explode after Justin Carney agreed to a two-year deal with the Bondi-based club yesterday.
Just four days out from the crucial round 17 clash between the teams, Carney has ensured the Raiders-Roosters ongoing war will erupt at Canberra Stadium on Sunday.

The Roosters have made a habit of poaching the Raiders' rising stars in the past.

Speculation is also growing Canberra fullback Josh Dugan will follow Carney to the Roosters at the end of next season and they already boast sacked Raiders playmaker Todd Carney and winger Phil Graham. They lured Joel Monaghan to Sydney for three seasons before the Canberra junior returned to the Raiders in 2008.

But while the Roosters continually raid Canberra's junior ranks, Raiders chief executive Don Furner was not surprised by Carney's defection.

''It's amazing, that's all I'll say,'' Furner said of the Roosters' ability to sign Carney.

''It's one of the things wrong with the game, but what can you do?

''We made him an offer, but we hadn't heard back so we assumed he was making other plans.

''It's not a shock, it's disappointing because we would have liked to have kept him, but it's not a shock.''

Raiders chairman John McIntyre took a swipe at the Roosters, saying: ''That's the way they run their business ... we all do our best for ourselves so I'm disappointed, but it's not the end of the world.''

Carney made his NRL debut for the Raiders in 2008 and helped Canberra's under-20s side to the inaugural premiership in the same year.

The winger hasn't played in the NRL since badly breaking his leg against the Gold Coast Titans 12 months ago. The Raiders offered him a two-year deal.

But his decision to join the Roosters came just a week after he made the admission

I didn't know that the Roosters were the only club that could purchase players.

I know. Furner makes it sound like we go on shopping spree's each season. Has he seen the Dogs?

Unlike others here I like this purchase. If he gets in shape, he is a great player.

As for Raiders - ****ing derros if you ask me.

Carney wasn't getting game time and didn't look like getting it for a long time. Their centre/wing combinations are full.
Furner can go **** himself, the incompetent dipshit. Maybe the question that he should be asking himself is 'Why are these guys willing to leave the club so easily?'

He is in the same style as a Matt Utai/Sam Perrett sort of player. Short, stocky tackle busting winger or centre.

            If Dugan comes:

            1. Dugan, 2. Perrett, 3. SKD, 4. Carney, 5. Linnett

            If Dugan doesn't come:

            1. Perrett, 2. Carney, 3. SKD, 4. Linnett, 5. Graham

We really won't survive with both Carney and Perrett on the wings. Both would have trouble in the air against big, high jumping wingers.

To summarize Justin Carney's career so far:

He played the first 6 rounds of the 2008 NYC season, in which he scored 11 tries and broke the line 11 times, along with 35 tackle breaks. Missed Round 7, played Round 8, missed Round 9, 10 and 11, played Round 12 and 13, debuted in first grade and played Round 14, 15 and 16, missed Round 17, played NYC in Round 18 and 19, played first grade again in Round 20, 21, 22 and 23, then didn't play again in the season. Finished his 2008 NYC season with 11 games, 13 tries, 14 linebreaks, 55 tackle breaks (10 at centre, 1 on the wing), and finished his 2008 NRL season with 7 games, 5 tries, 4 linebreaks, 27 tackle breaks (7 on the wing).

In 2009, he played exclusively NRL, played Round 1-17 (missed Round 11 and 12 with injury), 13 games, 7 tries, 4 linebreaks, 31 tackle breaks (11 on the wing, 2 at centre).

FML. Carney X2, Naughton, Graham, Dugan possibly, Monas back in the say. If you guys win the premiership within the next 3 years it'll be on the back of the Raiders. I'm finding myself supporting the Roosters as m 2nd favourite team because of ho many Raiders are in it

Furner's no so much angry at the way the Roosters buy their players, but you guys have single handedly set the Club back another 5 years.

Don't you worry, I'm angry at the Raiders too for not being able to hold onto their own. At least Carney has been honest these past few weeks and said his decision was for more money.

                Please.
Carney was not going to get a crack unless an injury occurred.

How is Shillo working out for ya?

Graham was in the scrap heap.

I'm not surprised, the way Canberra is run/coached I wouldn't want to play for them either.

Mack, with all due respect to Perret, Carneys speed and positioning is superior.

Carney's in a different stratosphere to Perrett

Perrett is the least threatening winger in the comp

Yeah you're right, us getting Shillo compares to you guys signing the Carney's, Graham, Naughton & possibly Dugan. Can't see who got the better deal there.

While you're at it, Vidot goes alright, may as well take Fensom. Tongue goes good on his day.

clearly an apparition - Nightingale's twice the player Perrett is
