  • Chookpen location

I've been wanting to say this for a while bit I think it's appropriate after the great win against souths.

I think it's time for the chookpen to move back over to the western side of the field next year.

    We are 1 club.

    United.

The only one to have played every season that league has been played in this country.

It doesn't make sense to me that part of our members are on one side of the field and the other part is on the opposite side.

    Stuff the look on tv.

What's more important than that is noise and atmosphere.

Nothing beat the loud noise of rooster fans singing and cheering when the pen was in bay 15 next to the other members.

On Friday night, the pen could hardly be heard from the western side. Similarly, that small chant of "ole, ole, ole" started to break out on the western side after our last try. But it could hardly be heard without the pen around close by.

I think it's time Mario and others for you guys to bring the pen back where it belongs - side by side with the rest of the rooster members.

Next year looks like it'll be an even better year for us. It's time.

    Those are my thoughts anyway.

    That would be awesome.

    Any noise would be good.

Just out of curiosity, did you offer these thoughts to club when they sent that email through to us about a month or so ago?

I didn't send anything through, I'm not sure how I feel about the location of the Chookpen. I wouldn't mind being back on the Western side with fellow fans but that would make the stadium look empty as the players run out.

It would be nice to move over to the Western side, the spiritual home, but personally I would rather stay on in Bay 35.

            1) The TV issue is a big issue. If the Pen was in Bay 15 on Friday, the whole of the Eastern side would have been red and green. In stead, it had all the colour of the flags in the Pen.

            2) The view from Bay 35 is superb and I'd rather be there than tucked away in the corner.

            3) I love the banter with opposition supporters either side of Bay 35

But I completely understand why people want to move back.

See, thats the thing, you call them dropkicks, but it is thoughts like yours that they need to hear if people want to move back to bay 15.

if 40 people out of 350 say they want to move, would it be a good idea to move the pen??

What i am trying to say is, Dropkicks or not, if you believe that something needs to be changed, you need to lobby the ones that make the changes.

Lauren, I didn't email marketing because I think they are stupid.

I think it needs to be a collective voice.

The players will get to hear a bigger roar when they run out onto the field with all rooster members being on one side of the, that will pump them up more. Plus if players go get a lift from thr crowd during games, then it'll only be louder and more effective with all members in the one area.

Plus I'm sick of seeing other clubs fans jersey somehow sneaking into western members areas.

Nothing was better than in the early 2000s when everyone was together.

                  Fair enough.

Marketing won't do anything unless there is a big push and unfortunately, I don't think there will be one big enough.

I guess I am interested to hear peoples thoughts firstly.

Out of curiosity then, what is the main emphasis of the chook pen would you say? What is the main reason behind the existance of the chookpen? Did it come about as a result of the old turner stand at the old sports ground where rooster fans collected to chant together in the older days? How did it's existance come about?

The first year the club officially offered it as a membership was (from memory) 1998? Under Todd McNamara, the bloke that used to do the ground announcing?

the question about the existance is one for Wally to answer.

the reason for the existance of the pen is to add colour and noise to the game, alot of this comes across the tv via pictures and audio. as to being able to hear us on the other side, i cannot comment.

you can always look at it as an opportunity to have Vocal support on both sides of the field, like a double barrel of roosters support coming from the sidelines.

the pen on the eastern side at least gives a solid presence on that side of the field with the flags and banners and the like, the players see it as soon as they run out.

there are pro's and cons to both sides, but i think the majority would stay.

As you guys know, I was dead against the move when it happened, so much so that we as a family did not move with the pen for quite a while, but now I can not fathom the pen being back on the western side.....

I did email marketing when they asked and I was against the move...thats not to say that if it happened, of course I would be part of that move, but as it stands at the moment, I like bay 35 and the atmosphere we have created.....

How come some members of the pen - like the big guy shannon or cannon or whatever he is called - have moved back to the western side?

Shannon and Thirteen are the only two I know that have moved back to the Western side.

                              I don't know why though.
