  • Taniela Tuiaki from Tigers may become available

The NRL career of Taniela Tuiaki could be over with Wests Tigers unable to offer the giant winger a new contract due to his persistent ankle injury, Rugby League Week reports.

The Tigers and rival clubs are reluctant to sign a player who hasn't played since breaking his leg in round 24 last year, Tony Adams reports in Rugby League Week.

The 28-year-old is making slow progress in his recovery and is highly unlikely to play again this year.

"Normally we wouldn't hesitate in re-signing Taniela," Tigers recruitment manager Warren McDonnell said.

"He has been a great player for us and all the boys love him.

"But the sad reality is he is not making much progress and the injury is proving very hard for him to overcome.

"He had a fantastic season last year before getting hurt and it would have been sensational to have him and Lote (Tuqiri) on the wings this season.

"But that hasn’t happened and Beau Ryan is now doing a great job for us so we will just have to wait and see if he improves before we make any decision."

The Tigers have sought opinion from several medical experts to return Tuiaki to the playing field – all to no avail.

"We have left no stone unturned," coach Tim Sheens said.

"And we live in hope that Taniela recovers – sometimes these things can heal all of a sudden.

"But right now the signs aren't good and we are very disappointed for the big fella."

What you guys think of sigining this guy?It seems that he may not be re-signed due to his injury.
He is Big Fast and strong for a winger, only problem is his bad injury he suffered, but Mini has has had a similar injury and has recoverd and slowly finding his feet after a shaky start.
I say we sign him on a incentive base contract and see how he goes.

Didn't realise he was 28, explains all the "career over" speculation I continue to hear about the poor bloke.

Feel sorry for him he was a real good news story of a park footy player being given a shot at mid to late 20's then cementing himself in grade.

He is a real crowd pleaser and good bloke to boot

No thankyou, we don't need an old injury prone winger, plus we have plenty of young up an coming wingers waiting to have a crack at first grade.

if he was injury free i would've taken him in a heart-beat.. was a great player on song

unfortunately.. i couldn't risk it atm with him

I can't see anything wrong with offering him an incentive based contract..If our medical team think they can get him right..

He has proven..when fit..that he is a very good winger..

He has a turning circle like the Queen Mary though..

Was that directed at me Fred?

If so,i'm not saying we need him..

But he would be a depth option if he came for under $100k..

& i lost the plot years ago..
