  • Roosters Victory Song

the lyrics to the much publised victory song that lopini paea and his wife came up with have finally been revealed..

THE words were first written on the back of a napkin by Lopini Paea's wife and for the past three weeks they have been heard emanating loudly from the Sydney Roosters dressing room after consecutive wins:

I said Oh, Ah, Oh Yeah

    Oh, Ah Roosters

    Oh, Ah, Oh Yeah

    Oh, Ah Roosters

We came to play, yeah we came to play, we came to play

Hear what we say, yeah hear what we say, hear what we say

We made them pay, yeah we made them pay, we made them pay

Who won today, Roosters, who won today, Roosters

Give me an R, R, double O, STERS

Give me an R, R, double O, STERS

    ROOSTERS''

''That's as many times as we got to sing it all of last year,'' Paea said.

Instructed by former coach Brad Fittler to come up with a ''clean'' victory song for the players to celebrate in the dressing rooms, Paea wrote the new tune with the help of his wife Natalie.

''The old song had a lot of swearing in it so Freddy set a few of the boys the challenge of coming up with something cleaner that we could chant after wins,'' Paea said. ''He basically set me and Sammy Perrett the task of doing it and my wife helped me with it.

''We were talking about it over dinner and she started writing the words down on a napkin. I showed it to a few of the boys and they liked it and it has become our team song.''

Paea said the previous Roosters song was one that a number of teams use, with the club's name changed.

But with lyrics like ''I was running down the sideline with my p---- in my hand; I'm a mean mother------, I'm a Roosters man'', many consider it to be offensive.

''Brian Smith has come in as coach this year and he really likes the new song,'' Paea said. ''He said he had been to a lot of clubs and it is one of the best he has heard.''

Undoubtedly, the song has been sounding better with each win the Roosters have enjoyed this season as they climbed the premiership ladder into fourth place following Sunday's 36-32 defeat of the Bulldogs.

Roosters centre Mitch Aubusson, who has scored the match-winning try in the club's past two victories over South Sydney and Canterbury, said last season's wooden spoon now seemed an eternity away - although the players were aware that a lot of hard work remained.

''I think that makes you appreciate the good times a lot more after what happened last year,'' Aubusson said. ''It is a credit to the boys who were here last year that we have turned it around.''

Roosters captain Braith Anasta said the team was gradually improving as the run to the finals begins and believes the club can win the competition if it makes the play-offs.

''I thoroughly believe that and I think the boys do, too. I think the last month we have played consistently well and in a lot of tight games we have come out on top,'' he said.

a little trivia note on that.

When they originally penned the song, the "double O" part was not there, they actually penned it as R, O, S, T, E, R, S

hey actually missepelt Roosters !!! thankfully they were able to fix it.

Love the song and I personally would love to see a video of it uploaded to the Roosters web site after each victory.

I think the song is pretty average actually......maybe it just doesn't have the same impact when written down on paper!

I was thinking the same thing, really. I saw the video of it and it was just a loud rabble of noise, no way could you make out any words. If that's the best song out there, then some other clubs must have some pretty ordinary ones, lol.

Still, the song is for the boys to celebrate with. If they're happy with it, then that's all good. I'm not in the sheds, so it's not really for me to be hearing anyway.
