  • will it be 3rd or 8th

certainly a strange set of results in the NRL so far this weekend with the top 3all losing and the majority of sides directly below the Roosters all coming up with wins.

with a win tomorrow we will be 3rd on points differential and a loss would send us down to the bottom of the 8 and in real danger of missing a finals spot.

****, that is a horrifying thought and if Myles and Pearce are out...I don't want to think about it.

If Carney is moved to half back I'd still like to see him play a lot of second receiver. He is much more dangerous just that bit wider. Anasta can go first receiver and let Carney feed the outside backs.

Which is exactly why this game is incredibly important. We need breathing space in the log-jam that is the 2010 Premiership season; a couple of losses and BAM your out of the eight.

I'm expecting a big defensive effort this week and hopefully a close win on the back of that, but its going to be hard without Mitchell and Nate. Awful timing to lose two of our best players...

If we WIN on Monday by any reasonable margin:

            1 - Dragons 30 (F/A 188)
            2 - Penrith 26 (F/A 97)
            3 - Roosters 26 (F/A more than 5)
            4 - Tigers 26 (F/A 0)
            5 - Manly 24 (F/A 74)
            6 - Warriors 24 (F/A -21)
            7 - Titans 24 (F/A -25)
            8 - Rabbitohs 22 (F/A 77)

Brisbane and Parramatta would both be on 22 points too, but just outside the top 8 on for and against.

If we LOSE on Monday by any reasonable margin:

            1 - Dragons 30 (F/A 188)
            2 - Penrith 26 (F/A 97)
            3 - Tigers 26 (F/A 0)
            4 - Manly 24 (F/A 74)
            5 - Brisbane 24 (F/A more than 41)
            6 - Roosters 24 (F/A less than 5)
            7 - Warriors 24 (F/A -21)
            8 - Titans 24 (F/A -25)

However, in this instance if we lose by more than 30, Brisbane could potentially leapfrog Manly, and we could drop as low as 8th. I don't see this happening however, and I do predict a close one.

I am really worried after watching the Warriors capitulate in the second half today, they have had a similar run to us recently and my greatest concern is the emotional toll the last couple of weeks have had on our team, it wouldn't surprise to see us come out fairly flat tomorrow night and struggle to match the intensity the Broncos will play at in front of a home crowd.

having watched a replay of last weeks win again i'm concerned about Carney in the defensive line, since he has reverted back to 5/8th from fullback he has a tendency to play a sweeper role slightly behind the defensive line which caused a few defensive issues against the doggies.

Wait so are you confident or not? Doesn't make too much sense champ.

I don't think it matters as much as other fixtures.

Our position in the eight will be guaranteed if we can win the games we ought to win - Cronulla, North QLD, and a couple of our remaining home games.

Hey Fletch, that's probably a bit of a doom and gloom prediction. The closeness of the comp and the elimination of Melbourne point to 28-30 points required for the 8. That's 2-3 more wins.

It will take a massive collapse for us to miss the eight from here.

our poor for and against will mean we will need at least 30pts or three more wins, if you look at our run home game by game there is only two I feel fairly confident with.

Broncos (A) - if Pearce/Myles are out don't like our chances

Parra (A) - we have a good record against the Eels but they are playing with plenty of confidence at the moment.

Dragons (H) - they may be starting their end of season choke, however we have a poor recent record against them.

Sharks (A) - if we don't beat the gummies we don't deserve to make the top 8

Titans (H) - being at the SFS we should win this one

Manly (H) - they are starting to put some good form on the board, certainly a 50/50 proposition, happy we are not travelling to Brookvale.

Cowboys (A) - a real wildcard side, very dangerous as they have no pressure on them, we could be playing for our spot in the top 8.

out of the remaining 7 matches I am only really confident against the Sharks and Titans with the Parra/Manly/Cowboys a 50/50 proposition and we would be up against it vs the Broncos/Dragons.

obviously injuries/suspensions will have a huge part to play in the run home and are to hard to predict at this stage.
