  • Slowing down the play the ball

No doubt, we are doing this better than anyone.

Jake Friend with knees, hands and elbows.
    He is a genius.

    but.......

I thought we got away with murder against Brisbane.

The refs as per usual, might be out to get us as one of Parras focal strengths is the roll on from the play the ball.

I believe that refs may determine our fate this weekend.
    barbarian ......arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!

We have improved in this area, our work around the ruck was disgraceful in previous seasons. I think we should still get a tape and watch Storm, Dragons and Manly those teams get away with murder.

I have no problem giving away 7 penalties a game if we are slowing the other team down.

I agree with Friend though everytime a team makes a half break he is there to slow them down. He has been watching the way Smith does it.

Yes TOK we will determine our own fate but let's look at our last six games.

Round 14 Roosters vs Storm - the Roosters marker Masoe gets interfered with by the guy playing the ball and the Storm score from a video ref ruling. Bill Harrigan acknowledges error the next day.

Round 16 Roosters vs Warriors - Locke given Benefit Of Doubt. He pushed the ball but didn't ground it and the ball was clearly on the line anyway. Bullshit ruling.

Round 17 Roosters vs Raiders - Vidot clearly knocks a ball on while going up for a bomb. Benefit Of Doubt given but slow motion clearly shows a knock on. Bill Harrigan acknowledges error the next day. Bill also couldn't understand how we got just the one penalty all game. He said he could see atleast 4 others we should have got.

Round 18 Roosters vs Souths - forward pass called to Mitch Aubbuson for one of the tries of the year which nobody in the ground saw live or on replay except for the officials. Acknowledged by Bill Harrigan. Of course Souths fans just remember that last penalty which Lang acknowldged as a penalty.

Round 19 Roosters vs Bulldogs - Anasta kicks through and regathers off a Kimmorley dropped ball. Video ref after 1000 views calls a knock-on by Anasta. Play it in normal speed, definate try. Play it in slow motion and definately Benefit Of Doubt. Another bullshit ruling. Also Anasta's pass to Leilua called forward; again clearly nobody but the officials saw it as forward. Pass from Carney to Anasta called forward but of course they miss the one metre forward pass from Ennis for the Canterbury try.

Round 20 Roosters vs Broncos - Folau scores try because it was judged as a DEFINATE strip; no Benefefit Of Doubt given. The third angle not shown until 30 seconds after try is awarded which clearly shows Folau losing control trying to reach over.

Let's also not forget that we have won only 3 of 18 penalty counts this year.

If the refs gift the opposition atleast one try every week as well as control the flow of the game by giving one way penalties then we have no choice but to determine our own fate with our own ability.

Dean Young is the master of having his hands all around the ball when other players are getting up to play the ball and rarely gets penalised..

Sam thaiday had his hands all over the ball. Broncos were slow to get off us. If you think we got away with murder, then you might have been watching a different game to me

                Good summation Buddy,
I was going to comment on the fact that we apparently got no dud calls in Rd 15.
I think we had bye that weekend ?

Each week you can see penalties that are not given for slow release. All teams are doing it. Look at the tackler watching the ref.

I also notice that as the game goes on and if it is a close game, then the ruling become less lax and what a player would have gotten away with in the first 10, will not in the last 10.

Brisbane are rarely penalised for slowing down the play the ball and the same goes for QLD. Harrigan "the destroyer" started this trend.

The Roosters slowing down of the opposition attack on average this year has been appalling. At times its been ok, but mostly its been disgraceful. The leaking of so many points is directly attributable to this. It was seen when Brisbane were on a roll and they were so quick they almost played the ball before the tackle was complete.
If we had given away a penalty or 2 early in the tackle count 2 or 3 times then they would not have scored so many points.

The other interesting thing regarding the speed of release of the tackled player is the interpretation of the tackle by the referee.
the ref will allow tackling players (in theory) to stay in the tackle longer if they are dominating.
You can hear the ref call, "move" or "get off" and when he calls this is different for different tackles.

This concept is something alot of supporters don't comprehend.

Hell Souths supporters thing the defensive line still can't move until the half back gets the ball.

I think we have improved but we are still well behind other teams. Some teams do wrestle better than others. Storm, Dragons and Manly are the ones who come to mind.

I agree that some teams and players seem to get more latitude at the ruck. Smith at Melbourne and Young from the Dragons could probably take a baseball bat or knife on the field and not get penalised.

The problem is Anasta. He just doesn't have the ability to influence the refs. I heard him trying to argue a call with the ref either against Souths or the Dogs and he didn't put up a good case when it was clearly an unfair call against us. Maybe we should get someone with a law degree to play and be the captain.

Have you ever seen a player win an argument with a referee?

a few weeks ago we were well behind in the penalty count at halftime

as Anasta was about to kick off for the 2nd half, he mentioned to the ref how far behind in the count we were

the ref said "I know, Brian told me at halftime"

always worth doing, because they do look to level up the count if it's too far one way

as per the old "How's Trent" question they got caught asking the video ref a couple of years back
