I agree JT that he is 100% footy but he has changed his approach in a few areas based on his long experience.

he no longer bombardes his players with text messages.

his calm confident reaction in the dressing room after the fluky last second loss to the warriors showed a coach with great experience and one who was confident and under control.

he encourages his players to play what they see in front of them on the field and to play expansive. he wants them to play footy rather than abusing them (like some other coaches) whenever they make a mistake.

    Our players love him.

This is a very important point and very different to how its been in the past from what I understand

the boys are primed. We have the attack to win it - need to steel a defence and I'd be more comfortable about October
The boys are 100% footy too.

          It is infectious.

I was just down at the Roosters HQ.

          Everyone is buzzing down there.

That is exactly right. Our previous coaches stiffled our players, directing them not to pass or offload even though it may have been some players strengths. Then when they'd do errors, they would cop a pasting.

It's the exact opposite now and the players are loving it.

            It's good times ahead.

He has also developed several assistant coaches along the way who have gone on to become quality head coaches themselves elsewhere. From memory Matt Elliott, D.Anderson, Jason Taylor and now Trent Robinson.
That in itself speaks volumes about the bloke.

BTW, does anybody know or has anybody heard whispers as to who might be replacing Trent as Brian's assistant in 2011?

Flanagan is another who started his coaching career as a lower grade coach under smith. He credited smith on a recent interview when he took over from the chair chucker. Whether flanagan goes on to become a good first grade coach remains to be seen.

Apparently Walshie's got the job ...

Peter Sharpe is another Brian Smith protege. And Nathan Brown could be included in that group as well.
