Originally posted by Headless Chook View PostI know its a far cry from NRL, but yesterdays loss reminded me of a game when I was coaching a few years back. We played the minor premiers in our competition in the major semi final (we play the top 5 system). We played terribly, much like the Roosters yesterday and in the end were beaten 24-14. Our opponents had heaps more ball then us and dominated territorially but in the end it was 4 tries to 3 with goal kicking letting us down. I said to my players after the game that there was no way we could play that bad again and if we could make it through to the GF I thought we were certainties. 2 weeks later we controlled possession much better and ground out a 20-12 win!
I got that same sort of feeling yesterday....disappointed in the result but pleased with the effort and more confident about our chances than what I had been before the game. I could be wrong, but I think we needed to lose to try and reduce the hype surrounding us. Hopefully we can slink back into the background and prepare for this weeks game without all the hoopla. I believe this weekend will tell us exactly how our team is travelling. If we can't do a job on the Sharks then we really are making up the numbers.
It's a difficult job these days to keep a winning team up for so long.
The players should take a lot from y'days game.

You cannot watch match highlights to know the real deal.
Highlights basically show the tries (i.e. highlights) and will not show the grinding stuff that goes on between the tries.
Holmes; My tip to you is either get to the game or watch the full game on TV so that you can understand that there is more to the game than the highlights reel. Also remember, what the bloke down the street tells you is not always correct.
GO ROOSTERS!

I don't necessarily think the Tigpies are to be written off yet.
They certainly aint playing pretty, but I think that says something about them.
If they get the luck, some of which they make, they can put a bit of a scare for a few teams.
They blew that game against Souffs but they were also dudded and should have gone home with the points. The Internet is a place for posting silly things
Try and be serious and you will look stupid

I think the level of intensity had gone up another level with finals football looming and this is what caught the roosters out - BUT im confident that again they will adapt and compete strongly in extremely pressurised game conditions. Goes back to the idea of being more ruthless, committed and clinical.
