  • The Good about Tonight's game v Cowboy

The good thing is that we play late, after the Worriers have had their go, we can play according to what we, or more like Brian wants. I think the best team for us to play will be the Tigers at OUR home so if things go as predicted, the Panthers should beat the Sharks and take 2nd. Tigers go to 3rd, Titans 4th and should the worriers beat Parra they go to 5th. We only need to hold onto to 6th and we are home, at the SFS.

The good thing is that the lowest we can finish is 7th (unless we lose by more than 33 points, unlikely but possible) if the Warriors and Manly win and we lose. We can finish as high as 5th, and all we have to do is make sure that we win by more than the Warriors do.

But winning by more than the Warriors means playing 4th, this time being the Titans at the GC. I see that being bad. 6th is best and playing those hapless Tigers at our home.

I disagree, I think if we play the Titans we can carve them up, we played bad a couple of weeks ago and still nearly beat them.

The only ones I fear are New Zealand and, to a lesser extent, St George.

I'm comfortable playing any of the others.

In which case we really have no business being any where near a semi final.....

I think the priority should be to ensure a second crack at the finals if we drop the first game. 7th and 8th now look like being Canberra and Manly and both of these teams are strong enough to have upset wins in the first week of the semis. If one does, then the 3 v 6 loser is out. If they both do, then the 4 v 5 loser is out.

We need to finish as high as possible and that means 5th.

                  That's it.

Smith will have them targeting a win. I doubt the players will have been told the result of the Auckland game when they run out.

There is no doubt that Smith will also want them to finish as high as possible. If the Roosters are up by eight with 15 minutes left and the Warriors won by 10 against Parra, only then will the message go out that they need to score again to leapfrog them.

                    That's the key !
This year moreso than any other I can remember, teams 5-8 look capable of knocking over teams 1-4. For that reason alone, you need to finish as high as possible to cover yourself a loss in week 1
Also with those lower teams capable of knocking off the higher teams, whose to say a win by team 5 over team 4 may progress you the extra week to the penultimate week !

So if we finished 5th, and lost the first week.. Wouldn't we have another chance??

The two lowest placed losers go out. Finishing 5th, we could still be eliminated in week 1, yes.

Maybe, maybe not,if the teams who finish 7th and 8th win we would be knocked out.

In more detail... if any 2 or more of the teams who finish 6th, 7th, or 8th win, 5th place would be eliminated (if they lost).

The fact that it needs this confusing discussion just shows the weakness of the McIntyre system.

                              It must go.
