  • Smith's real success

The Herald this morning names it team of the year - three roosters named:

    - Carney - drunkest man in rugby league who most thought would be a train wreck - now favourite for Dally M and citizen of the year

    - Myles - last years crowning achievement was a poo in a hotel corridor

    - SKD - derided by one and all as the dumbest man in rugby league with shit hands and no defence.

Smith has also debuted a bunch of players this year including Masoe, Kennedy, Linnett, Leilua.

Got FPN, Friend, Pearce etc playing their best footy.

Many people may be dissapointed with 6th and with some of the inconsistency but for what he has achieved this year he should be coach of the year.

The grown up that this club needed.

Here's to Smithy - Go Easts!!!!

Those who are dissapointed with 6th are delussional. Any place in the 8 this year is an over achievment. Bring on the Tiges.

Is it just Brian Smith, or were there other factors (people) involved? I'm not having a dig at Smithy, but I do think the club was already on the road to some sort of redemption before he showed up. Carney had already made a decision to turn his life around when he went to Atherton. I'd rather be in the top 8 than not (der ), hopefully the boys can show a bit of consistency in the finals.

        Few criticisms.

Why is he infatuated with Kouparewristy? Apalling player who remains unsigned for a reason. Kpups position could have been used to blood a youngster.

Why did it take half the season to realise Anasta was crap?. Carney was legless at fullback. At 6 he is electric and the Roosters season changed instantly.

Why does he persist with a 13 that is in effect a ghost? By now we should have had a 13 who is truly hybrid like a Lewis.

Why is Pearce not captain? At the moment we have Zoolander.

          To be fair, Sodotripe...

Carney was great at fullback for the early rounds, only around midseason teams began to work him out.

Our attack has been amazing since Anasta has moved to lock, its not his fault our outside backs can be borderline retarded with their handling and positional play.

Pearce at captain would be the worst move possible. Until he learns to control a match and lead by example a bit more, he is not ready. At least Braith has experience on his side, it should be either him or Minichiello.

          1. Minichiello - started the year on the wing as very average, but Smith shifting him to custodian has seen him flourish again as easily the best fullback at the club

          2. Perrett - less pressure on him on the wing, can still make some silly errors but Smith has smartly identified that his dummyhalf workrate makes him a vital cog in our team

          3. Kenny-Dowall - Smith has thrown him into the centres, and magic has happened, linebreaks, tackle busts and tries a plenty, absolute monster in attack basically

          4. Linnett - Smith threw this guy in at the deep end after irresistible form at Henson Park, his pace, strike power, defensive position and heart makes him a masterful choice

          5. Graham - he can be criticized for a few gutless runs, but he is the best and most experienced option, and even with marginal form, he has scored tries consistently

          6. Carney - Smith's initial selection of him at fullback was a success, he struggled mid-season, then his move back to five-eighth was again was another masterstroke

          7. Pearce - Smith is still working on him, but he is slowly learning to control the tempo of games, and his combination with Carney is going to be something special

          8. Myles - Smith got him far more fit, can interchange between front and backrow at will, has a great defensive workrate, and is the cornerstone of our forward pack

          9. Friend - another Smith masterstroke in bringing him back, identified that Jorbs was probably not suited to the workhorse defender, Friend has a massive ticker and workrate

          10. Ryles - his form may be dipping in recent weeks, but Smith signing him for his experience in the pack is invaluable, and along with Myles, he takes the harder hitups

          11. Nuuausala - Smith has got him more fit, streamlined, running harder than ever, using his offload with more control, and providing the impact that Tupou used to provide

          12. Aubusson - Smith shifting him to the pack has seen him flourish, with a great defensive workrate, linebreaking ability, tremendous mobility and outstanding hands

          13. Anasta - he was moved to lock by Smith and it has added another dimension to our attack, especially on the left edge with Linnett and Graham benefiting from him

          14. Kouparitsas - ...

          15. Leilua - amazing recruit by Smith again, provides impact, aggression, speed, tackle breaking, a handy offload and all at the age of 18, far better prospect than Seta Sa

          16. Hargreaves - replaced Mason as the pack enforcer, Smith knows he is raw but he is NEVER physically beaten by anyone, man-mountain, will be a club great soon enough

          17. Masoe - another youngster identified by Smith as talent, question mark over his fitness but his performances this year have been undeniable, what an amazing young talent

          18. Conn - Smith picked this bloke up as a bargain buy, and he has followed in the long-gone vein of blokes like Robinson, Webb, Catic, etc. as an honest wholehearted toiler

          19. Kennedy - another tremendous young talent that Smith picked out from the young crop, huge potential as a replacement for Ryles in coming years, gigantic frame on the kid

It has been an amazing year for the club in many aspects.

          Smith has accomplished magic.

Not to mention that Carney's dip in form corresponded with a painful rib injury.

I think he was actually signed by Freddie. Certainly, he has been in our system for several years.

I'm happy just to shake the memories of 2009 off.

I was unsure when Smith and Carney signed but now I can't sing their praises loud enough.

He plays well above his weight doesn't he. And has a good offload.

                              wow
                              thanks for that

reminds me of this gallery exhibition i wnt to yesterday. Aboriginal painter. Me and my friend stood there, glassy eyed as the curator told us that that big squiggle represented a snake, and that blue dollop the water spirit. We nodded like good little pc sophisticates but deep down we're like...."snakes?....water spirits?....if someone uses God, soul, or destiny in a sentence i involunatry gag....and here i'm asked to pretend that animism and infant like representaions invoke a sophisticated and important apprehension of reality?".

like when woman talk about footy.....
