  • Roosters sign Assistant Coach

The Sydney Roosters are delighted to announce that Brandon Costin has agreed to join the Club next season in the role of Assistant Coach.

Costin will take over from the departing Trent Robinson who has accepted a role as Head Coach at Catalans from the 2011 season.

Having played under Brian Smith at St George in 1991 and ’92, Costin spent time at the Western Magpies and Roosters before making the move into coaching.

He spent two years under Tony Smith learning his trade at Huddersfield where he reconnected with Brian before heading back to Australia to coach the Souths Logan Magpies in the QLD Cup in 2007.

Most recently he has coached the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles and the QLD Residents.

“I’ve know Brian a long time and always stayed in touch with him throughout my career. He has been a mentor of mine since I moved into coaching,” said Costin of his relationship with Smith.

“When I saw the opportunity to coach at the Sydney Roosters under Brian I was eager to come on board and learn all I can from someone who I consider to be one of the best coaches of this era.

Of joining the Sydney Roosters Brandon has said, “I have always believed that better people make better footballers and worked to instill good core values in my team to ensure they become respectful members of the community and therefore a tighter unit as a team.

“It is something I have seen at the Roosters this season and I am coming into a team that carries the same philosophy that I have embraced throughout my coaching career. I am eager to be a part of that."

The Sydney Roosters look forward to welcoming Brandon next season.

I remember Brandon Costin when he played for us during the "war" in 1997.

    Apparently he's a Seppo.

          Welcome Brandon.

I'm just happy it's not Jason Taylor. That's one bloke I've never been able to warm to.

I remember him scoring a great blockbusting try at the SFS for us one night. It might even have been against Balmain.

He was a wholehearted player. Nothing flash, but a real tradesman.

Let's hope he's got it between the ears these days. I know nothing about this bloke so don't know whether his coming on board is a good thing. If he is as someone wrote earlier, a "yes man," then that is NOT a good thing. There is a saying that when any two men in an organisation agree on everything, one of them is redundant.

Let’s also not forget the booming Raiders, Magpies, Roosters and Souths centre Brandon Pearson, whose name change to Brandon Costin perhaps had something to do with avoiding the notoriety of drug allegations.

Just great. But then we are the team of second chances.
