  • I want to be Chook for life - Braith Anasta

Andrew Webster From: The Daily Telegraph September 17, 2010 12:00AM

BRAITH Anasta has broken his silence on claims he wants out of the club because he is playing in the forwards by declaring he wants to be a "Rooster for life".

The news is a double blow for the North Queensland Cowboys, who could be looking for a new captain after Johnathan Thurston was arrested for drunken and disorderly behaviour yesterday.

Anasta has been heavily linked to North Queensland this week and the speculation only intensified with calls from Thurston to "throw the chequebook" at the NRL Captain of the Year.

Anasta spoke to The Daily Telegraph last night in an attempt to quash the speculation ahead of tomorrow night's semi-final against Penrith.

"I want to finish my career at the Roosters," he insisted.

"I'm captain of the club and I love the joint. My family's in Sydney and I consider the Roosters my family, too. I want to stay here. Ideally it would be good to get an extension here. That will take care of itself in the next 12 months."

Anasta, 28, comes off contract at the end of next season, but his manager is yet to speak to club officials about any extension.

"I'm extremely happy where I am," he said. "I'm really enjoying my place in the team. I'm fully focused on trying to win a premiership. I'm playing in a different position than I'm used to, but I'm still really happy and enjoying my footy and don't want to be anywhere else."

Hope this put it to rest..

The boys are in a very good space at the moment..

After that dropkick, the one on Saturday night I mean, I would have Captain Braith Anasta at the club for as long as his body holds out.

If and only 'IF' we go onto win the GF, that would be the pivotal moment of getting there... aaahhh... that is a nice dream

I'm going to safely assume it would be inappropriate to get a tattoo that says:

        Braith Anasta
        Cock Life

        on it.

IF we do go on to make and win the GF, I have a feeling there could be a few more pivotal moments still to come !

Can the Telegraph report anything accurately?

Apparently he's breaking his silence to say he wants to stay.

He said this on Channel 9 news on Tuesday or Wednesday (whenever the story first broke) and on NRL tactics.

Very understandable that Braith wants to have his contract extended now instead of waiting til next year. His form has improved dramatically since moving to the second row, and riding the wave of euphoria the team has generated he has picked the best time to put some pressure on the club to make a commitment to him, and to secure his future. Im sure he wants to stay with us, hes 28 now, and probably looking for a 3 or 4 year deal to see out his career.

What do you think he is worth in dollars? I think hes on $400K to $450K right now...... is he worth that? Im not sure, but if we can get him for $300K a year for his last 2 or 3 years then I say sign him up now.

Another article I read estimated 350k.
I'm hoping Roosters sign him for 2 years on 300k with an option for 1 more.

And I want him to be a Chook for the rest of his career.

But I also want a couple of them to stick around and I don't want to be found cheating the cap!

This is actually a very sound idea. I totally agree.

Included in salary cap exemptions should be a payment to the captian of the club. I know there are marque player payments, but this should be entirely seperate. A club should not have to lose it's captain.

I was surprised to find out that he didn't get one Dally M point this season.
