  • Anasta. Media. Manager

No denying Bwaiff played a great game last week. Most ppl realise he is a classic confidence player. When he feels he is on fire, he grows a third leg. Sadly he has rarely felt like that since his precocious first year at the Dogs. A bit more of it during the last 4 years would have been nice.

What i find extraordinary is how no one has mentioned this little media scrum over Bwaiffs future might be a classic case of contract manipulation.
1....rumours rarely materialise from thin air
2....Cowboys management basically said they had NFI
3....Bwaif wants to confirm his future

The rumour occured two days after Braith kicked a field goal that every one was talking about....that placed his head on the front of sports pages....that inflated his (no dally m points) season performance.
Recall that prior to the Roosters signing Bwaiff, the media hyped up the Souths bid. What became the main wedge was percieved disloyaly to his uncle. At the same time the NSW RU was cited as chasing the "star pivot". Days past bf the NSW RU said WTF? By then the Rooosters had spread $$$$$$$$.
Not long ago "French rugby clubs" were cited as being interested in the "star pivot". The story disappeared when the French said "pardon?".

The media story also focused on Bwaif as a potential 5/8. He is not a 5/8. The Roosters have no place for him there. He is now a floating forward. Hardly the position that drives clubs wild.

In the end the timing was remarkable....especially when Cowboys management said........WTF?
Someone sign up Bwaifs manager. (got him a bit of tv work lately. His tv persona is about as flamboyant as his playmaker skills). Before the field goal the very idea of a contract extension would have been scrutinised. Now it has the weight of necessity.

Actually the rumour came out before game day, few people at the ground were talking about it and Braith acknowledged this in his interviews saying that he had learnt about it after the game.

But we all love a good conspiracy so what the heck...

Braiths most likely testing the market-this will be his last contract. He has every right to do so he will be 30 or 31 next year.
After watching the game 10 time against the tigers like every one else .You can see clearly he was the man responsible for us getting over the line when I first was full of praise for Carney.
Remembering players used to come here for the money once upon a time.Anasta has so much passion for the club his Captaincy is outstanding .He is adjusting to the forwards finally -has taken him all year understanding his mind was more set on his mums illness.
Im happy with him to retire here and hopefully a premiership winner.

Go to any of the games mate? I doubt it. That field goal was not the only inspiring thing Braith has done this year.

                Go Easts.

Ive got a lot of empathy for Braith, even though I have been critical of him many times over the years. He has played under the pressure of great expectation placed on him since his debut in first grade. he was branded as the next Brad Fittler, Laurie Daley etc. and I think this pressure to perform at the highest level has had a detrimental affect on his game.

He is a talented footballer, with a lot of passion for the game and I think in his new role as a running forward he can make a great contribution to our team over the next 3 years ..............Im thinking back to a player some of you may remember, Gene Miles, who was an outstanding centre for Queensland in the 1980s, and finished his career as a great second rower.

If Braith can let the pressure he puts on himself go, and just concentrate on contributing to the team i think we will be pleased to have him at the Roosters for the next 3 years.

We could have a great balance in our forward pack with a combination of big boys like JWH, Kennedy and Mose, running forwards like Braith, Maubs and Symonds, and tackling machines like Myles and Friend.

I think he may even contribute better if he was relieved of the pressure of the captaincy, some players grow with that pressure, Im not sure if this is the case with Braith, we wont know until if or when this happens.

I think Carney would make a great captain at sometime in the future.

In saying all this everyone wants to make the most money they can from doing their job, and I do think Braiths management have tried to take advantage of the current euphoria around the team, and Braiths good form in general, which is a natural thing to do, to maximise his value and to secure a long term contract at good bucks.

As i said in another thread, i think we should re sign Braith at about $300K per year for 3 years, with an option for another year. that will take him up to his 32nd birthday, and should see out his career.

Sodomite, get your facts straight. Cowboys management had a huge idea.

I had it confirmed by an Anasta familty member yesterday that 2 clubs including Cowboys had approached Anasta, not the other way around and this was before the semi final last week.
