  • Pearce for Life !!!

Just on Sports tonight, pearce was interviewed and was asked about his partnership with Carney.

it was very heartening to hear that he wanted to stay with the Roosters for the rest of his career and wanted to build a 10 yr partnership with TC at the Roosters !!!!!!

All nice...until the salary cap splits them apart.

      Look at Brisbane.

It can be done (and I didn't say legally).

Nick will make sure these two are here for a while.

yeh sounds really good, hopefully it's possible even with the salary cap restriction. Surel the club will do whatever it takes to keep these 2!!!

It's very possible but that means that others may not be here.

We need to time it so that the older players come off contract in the same year as the younger players.

e.g. Ryles and Graham leave, allowing us to re-sign Nuuausala and Kennedy, for example. A few years later, Minichiello and Anasta (?) leave, allowing us to re-sign other youngsters, etc.

changes are being made to the salary cap starting next year

i think very soon/if they're not imposed already we'll be seeing discounts on players who serve a club for extensive periods

If we can keep them together and put some half decent talent around them they WILL take us to many finals campaigns. Clubs now are lucky to have one decent half let alone two outstanding young talents.

Pearce and Carney are capable of so much brilliance. No doubt they'll be kept at the expense of others but in all fairness, we can't expect to hog them all.

I'm greedy though. Like everyone, I'm hoping some salary cap concessions get introduced in the next couple of years.

It's like if back in the early 90's Brisbane had had to choose between keeping the Pearl or keeping Alfie.

Methinks they would have gone with Alfie. Every time.

If we have lose someone like Linnett or, John Key forbid, SkD to keep Pearce and/or Carney then that is a sacrifice that has to be made.

You can build a good team around 2 halves like that, no matter what talent (as long as it's not garbage) you have around them. Those sort of players make other players look good.

Much like Melbourne has done for next year.

They must be kept for the next 8-10 years.

All good so long as the club prepares for life after they leave.

It has taken us 6 years to recover from the retirement of Freddie.
