  • We will play for our fans: Carney

THIS is a message for all our loyal Roosters fans out there that have given us copious amounts of support throughout the year.

The support you have given me and the team this year has been next to none.

I can vouch for every single player when I say the cheers and well wishes you give when we were down throughout a game pay dividends in picking us back up.

I can’t guarantee we will win the grand final but I can promise you this.

For the 80 minutes that we are out on that football field we will be giving it everything single thing we’ve got.

We will be playing for you guys; this is my thanks to you.

The belief that you’ve had in me and the well wishes are something I will forever hold dear to my heart and is something I will never be able to repay.

My past has been well documented and it isn’t the most glamorous but you never judged me and for me it’s been all about the future.

I mentioned in an earlier article I wrote for sportsnewsfirst.com.au that Mitchell Pearce, Braith Anasta, Jake Friend, Anthony Minichiello and I have put in a lot of extra hours perfecting the little things.

It’s no fluke what we do out on the field and Sunday afternoon will be no different.

This is the grandest stage of all, the reason you do the extras during the year, its boils down to this one game.

I can’t wait; I can’t remember the last time I have felt so excited.

Smithy (Brian Smith) has been given a lot of wraps in the past few weeks so I’m not going to wrap him up here, he knows how all the boys feel about him but I will say this.

I’ve never seen the man so relaxed which is a pleasing thing to observe as a player.

We have played the Dragons twice this year and were beaten both times but as the old saying goes, anything is possible in a grand final.

If we are fortunate enough to do the lap of honour it would be a dream come true looking around seeing the smiles on all your faces.

That’s the reward for a hard day’s work, applauding you fans and thanking you for all your support.

Nothing would be more pleasing to see you smiling back at us sharing an amazing moment.

So here’s to you the Roosters fans, on behalf of the side I thank you and I hope we can do you proud.
Win or lose on Sunday, I couldn't be prouder of what the team has achieved this year.

      Just play for yourselves.

For the Jersey and for your team mates and coach.

Dont worry about us, just leave your guts on the field. The rest will take care of itself.

          What he said.

Thanks for thinking of the fans though Todd, it is much appreciated.

I can see him now...scoring a hat trick of Fairfax-esk tries, all via chip over the tops and regathers.

                Cooper Cronk that.

As long as no-one does a Ryan Tandy.

                    Knock on I mean.

I don't mean giving away a stupid penalty leading to a try.

Toddy if you happen to read this forum, I have a message for you.
I could not be more proud of you if you were my own son.
To see you go throught the trials and tribulations of a misguided young man to where you are at today is testement to your character.
Keep up the good work son, go out there on Sunday and do it for yourself and your mates, we are behind you all 100%.

I think everyone would be happy with where we have come so far, but if only for Brian, go the next step boys. I can't think of any coach more deserving this year.

Apart from Anasta, I've never been so excited about a player coming to our club. I've had faith in Todd from day one, which is evident by my 'Carney For Dally M' thread before Round 1 this season.

If he stays on the straight and narrow, he'll eventually become the game's best 5 8th. (not necessarily in history, but Lockyer's about to retire, and there's no one else standing in his way).

                              The future is bright.
