Now he is Wayne Bennets right hand man and assistant coach.

Doubt it. The team has changed too much since last year both in players and tactics. Too many new players and old players in different positions and Smithy seems to come up with a different game plan tailored to each team so I don't think it will matter.

Sounds like he was already planning to quit and just using the Saints finals campaign as an excuse.
