  • Worries of 2011

A grand final loss is always painful. Normally after a loss I think to myself "there's always next week", but sadly this time around "next week" is too far away. At the moment there is a void in my heart that can only be filled by a premiership in the near future. But now I start to wonder; will it be filled? There are many contributing factors that make me think that the Roosters will spiral downwards in 2011, much like Parramatta after their grand final loss.

    1. We have over-achieved this year and this season was meant to be next season.

    2. Smithy maybe unable to keep our players well disciplined, it has happened before when he was at Parra.

    3. The players outlook on next season might not be positive. This year all the players wanted to make amends after the disastrous last season, but next year they might think that they had done enough.

Help me please, consolate my worries!

What a depressing thread! Just what we need this week.

Fingers crossed they stay disciplined and the club stays up.

Sorry to bum everybody out, it has just been on my mind a lot and I was hoping someone could put my mind at ease.

Parra was a one-man band, with a shit halves combo, a coach that wasn't liked by the playing group and an administration that lacked cohesion and direction to say the least.

We have an evenly talented, young team that play for their coach and play for each other. We're coached by Brian Smith who has repeatedly expressed his love for the club. We have a brilliant halfback and five-eighth who will form the blues halves. Our administration is 100% behind our team.

I'm not claiming we'll do as well as this year, but I'll be incredibly surprised if we fall to Parra's lowly standard.

Don't worry mate. The players are already amongst themselves talking positively about being better next year. They are a confident bunch now and will be even more determined to do well now they got a taste of success.

You can't compare to parra who have no halves and only went on a great run last year due to a superhuman effort by hayne.

If anything, there's just as much chance that we could do what a young parra team did under smith some years ago. In 2000, a baby eels team made the semis in 7th position & then beat us comprehensively in a semi game. They overachieved that year. Then the following year that eels team went on to win the minor premiership breaking most of the point scoring records in 2001.

There's only good times ahead the next few years with our top young talent maturing.

You've covered all three areas there, thanks.

Parra are a bunch of old farts with no direction in the halves.

We have the NSW halves, a team that enjoy each other's company as well as their coach. We have players coming in that will improve our depth (not Poore, Tahu and Shackleton). We have many X-factors in the team not just a Hayne. 75% of our team are 23 or under and those that aren't are State Of Orign or international players.

                  Do you need any more?

I think what's really important is that we have a very professional playing group - especially amongst the leadership group. Also, Uncle Nick will keep things under control

It is simple, really. Sure, you can look at happiness, positive attitude, Brian Smith, good halves, young players, and all that. But there are two words that really sum up why we won't have attitude problems in 2011.

                      Braith Anasta.

We have the best captain in the competition.

Chin up everyone! This grand final reminded me of 2007 grand final between the storm and Eagles. Similar score to our 2010 GF. Look what happened in the 2008 GF, the Eagles crushed the storm. My point is our guys will bond and learn more from this GF. I think it will give them more incentive and experience in 2011 just like it did for the Eagles. I am ready for 2011, bring it on!

It's a very young team. They will be extra hungry, next year.

The 2004 team was getting old. They were tired, mentally and physically. Fittler retired. 2005/06 were always going to be difficult years.

I don't see the same problem with this squad.

I'm really excited about next year. I haven't been this excited about our long-term prospects since we lost to the Broncos in 2000. We have such a young squad that they can only improve over the long-term. Sure there might be some second year let downs here and there, but I have every confidence in both Brian Smith and Peter O'Sullivan. I honestly believe we could be on the cusp of long-term success, by that I mean becoming finals regulars again.

Not a very good comparison tbh, those 2 were leaps ahead of the rest over 07 and 08, (and well we know why one of them was so far ahead) we on the other hand are not and won't be next season....we'll need a lot of luck to get to the Grand Final in 2011.
