  • Bookies to Refund Clive Churchill Medal Money

Three bookmakers taking bets on the NRL Grand Final, Sportingbet, Centrebet and Betfair, have offered to refund money to all punters who wagered money on Tony Archer to win the Clive Churchill medal. Whilst they will also pay bets wagered on the medal winner, Darius Boyd, they will refund money placed on Archer as a goodwill gesture to their valuable customers.

A spokesman from Centrebet said “whilst no one can deny that Darius Boyd had a terrific game, the most valuable player was definitely Archer. He was heavily involved in the lead up to all of their tries and without him they would not have had nearly as comprehensive a win.”

Sportingbet had a similar attitude, saying that although Archer did most of his work in attack for the Dragons, that he made a valuable contribution in defence as well – “that try that he saved just before half time when he called the forward pass to Leilua was crucial. If he doesn’t make that call the Dragons could go to the sheds 8 points down. His work when the Dragons had the ball was there for everyone to see, but his defence was also awesome”.

Betfair remarked that they had not seen as influential a game from a referee in a Grand Final and were surprised that Archer wasn’t awarded the medal by the judges, saying “he was forced into one penalty when Friend was almost decapitated, so you can’t really criticise him for that, and the only other penalty against the Dragons was in junk time. Pretty much apart from that he has had a perfect game”.

It is appreciated but opens up wounds...the more I think about it the more angry I get...to not have a fair chance or fair playing field for a Grand Final game is the worst thing that can happen to the NRL...and it did...

Unfortunately, the only ones that give a crap are us.

                  Don't expect any Royal Commission.

Too right mate. Thats the hardest thing I and my family are trying to come to grips with.the fact that we all believe we were not given a fair chance to win the match

It will burn for years mate. Get used to it.

And it doesn't help that any non-rooster you mention it to laugh and say the loser always complains about the ref.
