I think that more refers to what he is now at present than what he once was. As Vasco said, Flannery began in the backs. I remember he was played 5/8 for reserve grade or maybe it was Presidents Cup for the best part of a season before playing First Grade and was predominantly seen initially as a backs utility before Stuart came to the club.

Flannery spent the majority of his early career as a utility back covering fullback, wing, centre and 5/8th. From probably 2003 onwards he would have mainly played in the forwards though.

crocker would be an ideal bonus man on the bench, lots of experience and an aquired cool head these days, ideal to keep jwh and co under control and on the field instead of the judiciary?

The problem with Crocker is that he would be permanently on the bench as he is never fit.

We have laughed at Souffs for buying has beens like Crocker, Ben Ross, Gulavao, Vagana, Wesser, Kidwell etc.

Buying Crocker would be up there with those signings.

It would be funny though if he came to play here and they had to pick up most of the tab under the salary cap!
