  • James Aubusson to take up coaching role

    Aubusson to coach Bulldogs
    BY DARRYL FERNANCE
    10 Nov, 2010 08:06 AM

FORMER Sydney Roosters hooker James Aubusson has agreed to coach the Goulburn Workers Bulldogs first grade rugby league team for the next three seasons.

Aubusson who came off contract with the Roosters at the end of the 2010 season told the gathering at the Bulldog’s presentation night last Friday that he and fiancé Tahlia Davies were looking forward to establishing themselves in Goulburn.

“I am looking forward to getting out of the city and setting up home here, buying a lawnmower and eventually starting a family,” Aubusson said.

“I had several options, which I discussed with Tahlia and I am happy with our decision.

“Everything has fallen into place for us. I have been coming to Goulburn for the past two years and really like the place. We are getting married early next year and want to settle down.

“This is a move that suits us both and for me is a step forward in my career too.”

Aubusson said he had several other rugby league options including possible contracts overseas or with the Titans or North Queensland however he was looking beyond his league career.

“I am really keen on real estate and spent quite a bit of time in the office of one of my sponsors, Laing and Simmons of Bondi Beach,” he said.

“I have been talking to some local real estate people about a career in real estate here.”

Bulldogs committee member Dale Godber had approached Aubusson about the possibility of him moving to Goulburn as captaincoach of the Workers Bulldogs after Kieran Davies had told the club about his future son-in- law’s desire to get out of the Sydney rat race.

Godber said that Goulburn was looking to rebuild its Canberra Raiders Cup team following the announced retirement of several players at the end of the season and Aubusson was just the person who could attract the players and sponsors they needed.

“James will, besides being captain-coach of the first grade team, have input into the reserves, under 18s, 16s and 15s,” Godber said.

“He will also be assisting us with lifting the profile of rugby league and in attracting new sponsors.”

For the full story, please see Wednesday’s print edition of the Goulburn Post, available from our Auburn Street office and from leading newsagencies across the district.

Best of luck to him, shame really because I reckon there was a spot for him somewhere in the NRL. Was with the club through some pretty dark times but always gave 100% and his hits in some bleak games were always a shinning light for me.

I thought he was average. Excellent tackling technique but nothing else.

No zip. No creativity. No kicking game.

Todd gave Goulburn a glowing referance as the entertainment capital of the southern highlands

It's got me puzzled why he didn't try his luck over in the ESL, he isn't goog enough for NRL but he might carve it up over in pommy land.

The Cowboys offer was still on the table, guess he didn't want to move to Queensland - would have been a good player to play beside Thurston IMO......I don't rate him as a hooker, I do in the limited time I have seen him in the halves.

                        Good luck Jorbs.

sounds to me like he's pretty much over playing professionally and is basically retiring

maybe he'll turn up at the Raiders down the track if he gets the desire back

Well, the Faiders do need a 5/8 with Campo gone for 2011

There is always one brother better than the other. We kept the better one.

And he did retire 'as a first-grade player'.

                            Anyway, good luck Jorbs.

Guess he'll be able to teach his players how to have a big cry on the sidelines.
