I'd only interchange Linnett and Carney on the last tackle, ala the Broncos with Folau this year.

I reckon the major reason BS bought Carney was to turn get him to play a similar role to Perrett, i.e string kick returns and dummy half runs, I'd be surprised if he doesn't play on the wing.
the thing i noticed was that once sides figured out the way our left edge operated with anasta they would often just slide and we would run out of room. This is why i see a carney as important in the centres there. see he is powerful and explosive like junior sau as opposed to being more athletic like linnett which means that when anasta gets the ball down the left and looks to put someone away he has a better option in carney imo who could hit a hole and run hard back on the inside which could see him a) making a linebreak or busting a tackle or two getting us a quick play the ball or b) making the opposition defence make a decision on whether to hang off and risk carney powering his way through or whether to come up and risk us going around on the outside with linnett or graham or naughton flying down the touchline.

Linnett was most effective with the likes of leilua or FPN playing left side backrower instead of anasta imo because they provided the direct hard running which gave him room to move on the outside by forcing the opposition to jam in similar to how maubs used to make those incisive runs on the edges which allowed SKD and pez space on the outside. However when anasta moved to backrow, we lost a bit of directness and would therefore go sideways a bit so although linnett was recovering from an injury i think that maybe carney/anasta is potentially a more complementary pairing of power and skill

To that extent, i think he could do a good job for us straightening up the attack down the left - something that perrett and maubs did particularly well down the right to compensate for SKD who likes to crab across field and drift about

        I love our bench,
        Watts
        Kennedy
        JWH/FPN
        Moseo/FPN

Cant get much better then that. And i still cant believe i had to leave out Daniel Conn, he was one of our best this season. Great depth we have to leave out the likes of Conn, Cherringon, Symonds ect.

And No we dont need James Graham. When Ryles retires, Kennedy will start with Conn on the bench. Problem Solved.

You can't play Leilua on the Wing long term. He can't defend there. He's centre, wide runing back rower or interchange. I personally quite like him off the bench because he can inject some unpredictability and flair in attack and cover a lot of holes if there are injuries etc.

Justin Carney played all his junior footy at lock and was selected to represent Country NSW as a lock. Even back then, his best attribute was how explosive he was out of dummy half. He signed with the Raiders and they attempted to turn him into a hooker but he lacked the football brain and passing game to make a go of it, so they shifted him out to the centres in 20's where he just exploded and was the competitions leading try scorer in the early part of the season until injury struck him, then when he came back he was picked to make his debut on the wing against the Broncos and from memory scored three tries. He's been a winger ever since, though I think he's very suspect under the high ball.

Probably because he's four foot tall.

True...but he's also four foot wide so he should be able to stop his opponents from getting near the ball!

Some of these supposed U20s stars struggle when the opposition actually bothers to tackle. I hope it isn't the case with him.

Anyone know if any of this years U20 games had a tackle count higher than the missed tackle count ? :P

Justin Carney has played quite a bit of First Grade though.

If youy're talking about Justin Carney, he's been out of 20's for a couple of years now.

How fit is he though? Hasn't he had continued major issues with injury? Has he lost any speed?

Carney was very good in first grade before he got injured.
