weedler has just reported that the man the police were seeking about a bet placed at a tab on the game in question was brad muarry (now with the eels). they called a press conference about it this morning

the common link between him and tandy is their manager sam ayoub... hmmm?

since muarry is a toyota cup player is he allowed to bet on nrl matches? and if not could there be implications for the roosters?

PARRAMATTA halfback Brad Murray has been identified as the player police want to talk to over a bet placed on the infamous Cowboys v Bulldogs game.

PrevNextThe 20-year-old halfback joined the Eels this year after a stint with the Sydney Roosters.

A member of Murray’s former Roosters club, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed to Sportsnewsfirst.com.au that Murray was the person in the photo.

"Yes, it’s him," Sportsnewsfirst.com.au was told.

“I’d prefer to stay out of it but unfortunately it’s definitely him.”

Murray is managed by Sam Ayoub, the agent for Bulldog Ryan Tandy who gave away possession and the penalty which could have lead to the two points so heavily wagered on.

It was revealed earlier this year that Ayoub placed a bet on the game, which he so commonly does as he is a regular punter.

New South Wales police have earlier urged a man to come forward after releasing CCTV footage of him placing a bet during the Round 24 NRL match between the Cowboys and Bulldogs.

The man in the photo was said to be one of the first people to place a bet on the option that the first points of the game would come from a North Queensland penalty goal.

The bet was made at a hotel on Parramatta Road at Flemington around 1pm on August 19, according to detectives.

Since the bet on the August 19, a suspiciously high number of similar bets were placed over the following days, with punters standing to win more than $250,000.

Detective Superintendent Arthur Katsogiannis, commander of the Firearms and Organised Crime Squad, said more than 80 people have been interviewed including players from the Bulldogs and Cowboys roster.

"As this was one of the earliest bets placed on the game we believe he may have information that can assist our investigation,'' said Detective Superintendent Katsogiannis.

He said that he could not speculate about if or when charges would be made however is "very optimistic'' about the chance of success, an important result for the sporting community.

"If true, the allegations go to the heart and the integrity of the game,'' he said.

In the match, Bulldog forward Ryan Tandy coughed up the ball on the first tackle of the game spilling possession to the Cowboys.

He then gave away the penalty in front of the uprights which would have handed North Queensland the two points.

Cowboy’s hooker Anthony Watts opted for the quick tap and a try was scored out wide leaving the bets redundant.

Corrupt player managers, they're a blight on the game. A young player on his way up promised some money by his manager. I hope the NRL don't go as hard on the kid as they do Tandy & Ayoub who know better.

What a dumb thing to do.

So much for a manager's role (Ayoub) of guiding young players in the right direction

The only positive I see, unfortunetly, is that he is no longer at the club.

Expected more from him, but making easy $$$$$ can blur the reality of getting caught.

                Crikey.

I would be surprised if anyone is charged with a criminal offence.

The Roosters turfed him, though I read he wanted to stay, let Parramatta worry about him.
