  • Coach Smith keen on Tahu

Gee i hope what i've heard doesn't come to fruition!

Smith reckons he can get him right again & get him firing.

Newcastle have gone off him since they've learnt about the Roosters interest as well. Some interesting negotiations are going on at the moment.

Is there a chance somebody else who has reliable contacts can confirm the above?

If Smith can turn around the form of players such as SKD, FPN, and former rats in Carney and Friend then why not?

People have been screaming for a decent left centre for a while now. Tahu fits the bill.

Give him a one year deal and if he doesn't pull his finger out then piss him off.

I remember there were rumours about him joining us from the Waratahs this time last year and people were cheering.

We need to remember he played under a coach that was sacked because basically none of the team wanted to play for him.

If Trew's prediction (and he is not often wrong) that the players will slowly lose respect in Smith, then what do we have to lose?

I reckon Tahu would love running off the service of Carney and Pearce. Beats running off Daniel Mortimer or whatever other hack they have as playmaker.

Maybe it's the Christmas spirit that is giving me some optimism. Whatever it is, I say we go after him.

Cogburn, I know you'll support us buying a decent centre! Where are you!?!?

If Brian thinks his head is right, or can be gotten right, find the required money and grab him

Only for depth. Although Carney can also cover at centre.

I am looking forward to seeing Linnett with a pre-season behind him and a bit of extra beef. I'd hate to see Tahu get first crack at centre as Linnett deserves the spot.

what does that mean? - "for depth"

does it mean try and sign him on a newtown wage?

is it something that's discussed during the negotiations - "Just so you know, we're only signing you for depth"

**I agree with you Vasco, if anyone can get the best out of Tahu it would be Smith. We all need to remember that before all the crap happened to Tahu this year he made the NSW side.

With all due respect to Linnett, he would be providing depth for Tahu's position.

A quick note for everyone, at 5:30pm today on FOX sports 3 they are showing Roosters vs st george 2000. I think we win this one as 2000 was a very good year for us.

His spot in the NSW team was very debatable.

The team looked like a tight unit last year, i'd hate for someone with questionable attitude to de-stabilise that.

Would be a great signing if we can get him back to near his best. A change of club could do wonders for him

Tahu this year - 17 games, 5 tries, 7 linebreaks, 46 tackle breaks, average 11 runs for 83 metres

Pisspoor...didn't warrant selection for Origin this year, and proved it in a rubbish performance.

Since shifting to the centres at Eels, he was good at the backend of 2005 (in his last 9 games he racked up 7 tries, 8 linebreaks, 41 tackle breaks, 4 linebreak assists) after a very slow start, missed most of 2006 with injury, and was good at the backend of 2007 (in his last 11 games he racked up 6 tries, 6 linebreaks, 45 tackle breaks, 7 linebreak assists) after another very slow start.

So pretty much since 2004, he has played a total of about 20 good games of footy.

Really, I wouldn't mind him replacing Graham on the wing, but not at the expense of Linnett.

So he has played under Brian Smith before.....this reason will hold weight when he makes his decision.

I still have visions of Tahu's try from a scrum win against Storm in 2007....the in and away on Folau, the fend and then the acceleration. He's that X factor type of player when on his game, but has had serious issues since comeing back to league. I'm not sure if Smith can get him right, but if Parra are paying half his wage he is definitely worth a punt.
