Roosters coach Brian Smith has challenged his side to lift their game to new heights next season as they look to avenge their grand-final loss to St George Illawarra.
The Tri Colours made the dramatic transformation from wooden spooners to NRL heavyweights in 2010.
But Smith, who masterminded the Roosters' resurgence after taking over from Brad Fittler at the start of the season, believes he is yet to tap into the full potential of his squad.

"There's every chance if we apply ourselves well that we can be, not only a more consistent team and play for a whole season at a high level, but we can actually get to new levels this year if we actually go for it," Smith said on Monday.
"I think we only had a very good half-season last year. We had some moments in the first half of last season and actually only had some moments in the second half of last season."
"We had some poor games at the back end of last year in the season proper and then we probably had a bit of luck in the playoff series and we had no luck, I think, in the grand final itself."
"Luck tends to come to teams that are working hard for it and our guys have come back pretty well."
"I think we had a great 2010 and I think we're in a great position to have an even better 2011."
Smith, who has now lost four grand finals as an NRL head coach, is confident his charges will take high expectations from pundits and fans in their stride but admits complacency is always a danger with a young side.
"Sometimes it (a grand final loss) works well and it adds impetus and encouragement because young guys realise that it's there and it's (a premiership) achievable," he explained.
"The other side of it is, any of us, might start to think it's just going to happen because it did last year."
"That certainly can undo the best of teams, that's happened across the board in many sports in many years. In sport, success is always earned."
Meanwhile, Smith admits Dally M medallist Todd Carney faces a massive challenge to emulate his fairytale 2010 campaign.
"Toddy sort of typifies where we are as a group," he said.
"What he did last year was quite remarkable and so was what our team did, our whole club did, last year."
"To back it up again, that's the professionalism, in the world that we live in that's always the test."
"Doing it once is great but doing it back-to-back and continuously throughout your career that's the ultimate test for all of us not just Todd.
The coach confirmed Carney continues to nurse a groin problem that plagued him throughout the Kangaroos' Four Nations campaign but is confident the No.6 will be ready for the season opener.
Meanwhile, skipper Braith Anasta sat out Monday's session with a minor hamstring strain, while fellow veteran Jason Ryles is also on light duties as he recovers from a calf strain.

Actually we didnt shoot him down, but asked for him to name a source....something which I find quite fair when making such a big statement....and will do the same again if the oppertunity arises.....
And I guess Mose could have been off, considering he managed to get himslef a pretty good bluebottle sting the other day.....Last edited by phantom; 01-10-2011, 06:56 PM.
